The world’s first 6nm GPU — the oft-rumored AMD Radeon RX 6500XT — is set to launch on January 19th! Its official reveal, however, will happen even sooner: January 4th at CES 2022.

This is one of the two GPUs we’re all so eagerly awaiting for reasons that need no explaining; the other one is, obviously, NVIDIA’s RTX 3050 Ti which, in all fairness, might be an even more alluring option. It’ll probably sell at a higher MSRP, but it’ll bring both DLSS and hardware-accelerated ray tracing support: two great features that have pretty much become an absolute must for anyone looking to upgrade their gaming rigs.

Nowadays it’s less about sheer graphical prowess and more about the aforementioned bells and whistles that can deliver a far more refined gaming experience.

AMD RX 6500XT — Mighty Alluring

The AMD Radeon RX 6500XT is especially interesting for two distinct reasons: it’ll be the first GPU ever manufactured on a 6nm node and is expected to sell for less than $250. Heck, some are claiming that it’ll retail for about $200, which would make it even more alluring.

The RX 6400 will also be based on the 6nm node but, unlike the 6500XT, it won’t exactly suffice for the latest and greatest AAA titles. Their power consumption will also vary wildly: the more powerful of the two will draw around 107W whereas the RX 6400 will cap out at a measly 53W. This means that the former will require a separate 6-pin PCIe connector whereas the latter will draw all its “juice” straight from the PCIe slot making it perfect for entry-level gaming builds and SFFPCs.

Both GPUs will come with just two display connectors: one DisplayPort and one HDMI. Both will feature 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM along with a 64-bit bus and 16MB of Infinity Cache.

Entry-Level Through and Through

These graphics cards are designed for the budget-minded among us, for those who are content with (at best) 1080p and Medium settings. The good news is that they’ll pretty much be useless for crypto mining which means we’ll actually be able to buy them.

Whether they, too, will be sold at a premium still remains to be seen, though — one can never be too certain given the current state of the market (and with so many scalpers running amok).

If the rumor mill is to be believed, the RX 6400 isn’t going to introduced by AIB partners but will instead be sold exclusively by OEMs. Be that as it may, we’ll surely be able to find this fascinating (if underpowered) GPU on the second-hand market sometime in March/April!

AMD reps will take the CES stage on January 4th and pull back the curtain on these novel entry-level GPUs; so, if you’re looking to upgrade your rig (from, say, an APU build) — or just get in on the RDNA 2 hype train — make sure to mark your calendars!
