Russian Esports organization Virtus.Pro has announced that it is to leave the Fortnite roster, with its roster to disband in the process. Having played the Epic Games battle royale title for over three years competitively, the news will come as a surprise to many, as well as a disappointment to fans of the team.

The organization has put the departure down to a few key issues, the first of which was that they believe that the main stars are the players, rather than the teams themselves. As a result, and along with the way in which the competitive Fortnite scene is structuresd, Virtus.pro feel that they are no longer required.

What Other Contributing Factors Led to Virtus.pros’ Departure?

Meanwhile, the Fortnite fanbase was another contributing factor to the org’s decision. Fortnite has one of the youngest followings in the whole of Esports, meaning that sponsors are often unable to complete deals with teams. Virtus.pro even believe that Epic Games goes out of their way to ensure that sponsors for certain categories are not allowed.

While a return to competitive Fortntie in the future has not been ruled out, those on their current roster will be searching for a new org to compete for. Dmitriy “Hurmaxx” Geynts, Kirill “kiryacheFN” Griyshin, Jamal “jvmsidxx” Saydaev and Dmitry “Siberiajkee” Voronin will be on the hunt for new teams, having earned just shy of $400,000 In tournament winnings. Such figures suggest that the players should have little trouble in finding new teams.

What Virtus.pro Has Said On Their Exit

In a press release, Virtus.pro CEO, Sergey Glamaza, stated that: “Leaving the discipline was a tough decision to make, as we had a team of very talented and charismatic people. I’m not only talking about the players, but content creators, managers, and everyone involved. Not to mention that I’ve always been happy with our sports performance.”
Virtus.pro finished fourth at the DreamHack Open October – Europe last year, while kiracheFN’s showing at the Solo Cash Cup: Chapter 2 Season 6 Week 3 – Europe in April could well be the last we see from any VP Fortnite player for some time.
