The Wild Card Stage of WePlay AniMajor is finally over and the two big winners are Vici Gaming and Nigma. This is exactly what every pundit predicted before the start of the tournament and the reason for this prediction is quite obvious: Vici Gaming had been dominating the greatest Chinese competitors for the past month, while Nigma was the 3rd strongest team in Europe. By comparison, every other Wild Card participant was weaker.
WePlay AniMajor Wild Card Results
The complete results of the Wild Card Stage of WePlay AniMajor are the following:
- 1st place: Vici Gaming: 2 W – 3 D – 0 L
- 2nd place: Nigma: 2 W – 2 D – 1 L
- 3rd place: Invictus Gaming: 2 W – 2 D – 1 L
- 4th place: Secret: 0 W – 4 D – 1 L
- 5th place: Execration: 0 W – 4 D – 1 L
- 6th place: AS Monaco Gambit: 0 W – 3 D – 2 L
Vici Gaming’s performance is remarkable. To go undefeated for 5 matches against the likes of Nigma, iG and Secret is not an easy task. Personally, I would have like to see Bo3 matches instead of Bo2s, simply because it’s much easier to determine the correct pecking order this way. But even with Bo2s, I think it’s not a mistake that VG and Nigma occupy the first 2 positions.
The biggest disappointment of this stage was Team Secret. Puppey and his crew did not manage to win a single match. They only had one loss, against iG, but it’s really strange that they couldn’t beat at least AS Monaco Gambit and Execration. In particular, Gambit had lost their best two players right before the start of WePlay AniMajor. If Secret couldn’t beat a team like this, I can only imagine the problems that exist in their roster. Someone’s going to get kicked right after The International 10, unless Secret gets a top 6 result in this tournament. The way they’ve been playing lately, I don’t think they can achieve that.
