The first round matches have concluded for the VALORANT Champions Tour: EMEA Last Chance Qualifier, and two teams have already been eliminated from contention.

This tournament is the last chance for European, Middle Eastern, and African teams to qualify for the culminating Valorant Champions 2021 in December this year.

Here are the most notable developments during the EMEA: LCQ.

Upper Bracket Matches (Round 1)

Team Liquid vs One Breath Gaming  (2-0)

Arguably the most notable match, Liquid swept OneBreath Gaming to the lower bracket. Liquid’s revamped squad returns to the international stage with a strong statement on Ascent— a one-sided 13-0 first round win. OBG had a better effort in the second round but ultimately fell to the stellar teamplay of Liquid, 13-9.

G2 Esports vs Anubis Gaming (2-0)

G2 Esports had an equally impressive sweep of their own, sending Anubis Esports down to the lower bracket. The Egyptian team held their ground beyond expectations. This, however, was versus a slightly unnerved G2 team that had some minor misplays here and there, but still ultimately won both maps. (Bind 13-4, Breeze 13-11)

Futbolist vs Oxygen Esports  (2-0)

Futbolist finally dispel their international stage droughts with a 2-0 win over Oxygen Esports. Oxygen experimented with an unusual team comps of Killjoy and Cypher but the gambit backfired and it wasn’t enough to stop a 10-round streak from Futbolist. (Split 13-6, Ascent 13-10)

SuperMassiveBlaze vs Guild Esports (1-2)

SMB vs Guild started heavily in the favor of the former— winning the first map on Breeze 13-8 and an early second round ace from Batuhan “russ” Malgaç on Icebox. Guild Esports, however, will end up getting the better of SMB, winning the second map in a hard-fought overtime, and ultimately carrying the momentum to a third map on Split, 13-8.

Lower Bracket Elimination Matches (Round 1)

Anubis Gaming vs Oxygen Esports (0-2)

Oxygen admits a hard-fought first-round win versus an undoubtedly improved Anubis Gaming squad. But the first map loss seemed to weigh heavily in Anubis’ composure who failed to rally to force a third map. (Split 12-14, Ascent 3-13)

SuperMassive Blaze vs One Breath Gaming (2-1)

The ex-forZe trio of hugeon, zeddy and Coffee was not enough to repel a determined SMB squad that fell just short of an upper bracket run. The sentiment for OBG remains positive though. The team is relatively new but showed promise against the more established teams. SMB, however, will look to continue their lower bracket run.
