Apex Legends | New Character Valkyrie & Season 9 Revealed!

A brand-new legend by the name of Valkyrie is set to join the ever-growing Apex Legends roster at the start of Season 9! The last addition to the game was certainly a bombastic one, and it seems as though Respawn want to keep the ball rolling! The sheer fact that they’re maintaining such a frequent patch cadence (in the midst of a pandemic, no less) is quite remarkable!

But before we delve any deeper into the nitty-gritty, make sure to watch the following cinematic — it definitely sets the stage for what’s to come!

Apex Legends Season 9 » A Seismic Update

As always, Season 9 — titled “Legacy” — will bring a metric ton of new stuff to the game! First of all, there’s a brand-new legend called Valkyrie — a “bold, brash, fiery, and fierce” competitor called Kairi Imahara who grew up in the shadow of her father’s legacy. Now, however, she’s ready to launch her own. What her ability kit will look like is anyone’s guess at this point in time, but based on a couple of promotional images, it looks like she’ll pack quite the punch!

She’s equipped with an imposing jetpack along with a couple of missile launchers. How this will translate into her abilities still remains to be seen, though.

The cinematic linked above gives us a fairly good understanding of her backstory and, needless to say, she’s quite an interesting character with an origin story to match!

Players will also be able to experience an infested Olympus. An infestation has “sprung loose, strangling the city with roots and natural growths.” We’re talking about a merely cosmetic update, but it’s still too early to know for sure. There’s also a brand-new weapon called “Bocek Bow.” As with most ranged high variance weapons, it’ll deal tremendous damage at medium range but you’ll have to make each shot count.

Finally, players will be able to purchase a Battle Pass (act surprised!) to unlock unique rewards through Daily and Weekly Challenges (Apex packs, XP boosts, skins, and the like).

One More Thing

The upcoming season will also bring something extra, although we’ll have to wait a bit to find out what exactly all the fuss is about. According to communications director Ryan K. Rigney, there’s a “pretty huge thing” they’ll unveil in a couple of days’ time.

There’s no tangible proof as to what that might be, but based on recent leaks there’s a very good chance we’ll get a 3 vs. 3 arena mode along with everything that was already mentioned above. This is just a rumor, of course, but it’s far from an outlandish one.

All in all, it seems like Respawn have yet another phenomenal update on their hands. They’ve definitely found their groove and are successfully keeping the game fresh and entertaining. If Valkyrie ends up even remotely as powerful as Fuse, then we’ll definitely be in for one heck of a ride come Season 9!

Either way, this exciting update will be hitting live servers in just a couple of weeks so stay tuned for more coverage!
