After 4 days full of superb matches, the Group Stage of The International 10 is finally over and we now know who will play who in the first round of the Main Event. With few exceptions, the participants have demonstrated why they deserve to be here and almost every match was a Dota 2 masterclass. It’s hard to overstate just how good the matches were. If you haven’t seen them for whatever reason and you’re a Dota 2 fan, you should watch the replays when you can. The lessons you’ll learn from them are priceless.

TI10 Group Stage Results

The International 10 started with 18 participants. 16 of them have advanced to the Main Event. The Group Stage consisted of 2 groups of 9 teams and the competitive format was round-robin. Every match was Bo2.

Group A

In Group A of TI10, it was clear from the start that Invictus Gaming and OG were going to be among the top 4 and secure Upper Bracket spots for the Playoffs. Both teams had multiple victories mixed with some draws and overall, played almost flawless.

The unexpected part was the performance of most of the other teams, who played really well themselves. In particular, Team Undying had very impressive matches and managed to get a draw against Evil Geniuses, OG, and even Invictus Gaming. The team definitely deserved to be in the Upper Bracket but unfortunately, finished with just 9 points out of 16. The 4th place team had 10. Another team that played well but missed the Upper Bracket is EG.

Ultimately, the top 4 spots were occupied by Invictus Gaming, Virtus.pro, OG, and T1. In particular, T1 made a big comeback, from 0 – 4 and 2 – 6 to 10 – 6. Its last game against Thunder Predator, a team that had lost every single game at the tournament until that one, was a thriller in which everyone was convinced that T1 would lose. Thanks to amazing plays, the SEA team managed to regroup and win a very difficult battle.

The biggest disappointments in Group A were Alliance and Thunder Predator. Nikobaby and his crew got draws against Aster and EG, as well as a victory against TP. But that’s all. Based on how their matches looked so far, the team’s odds of surviving the first round of the Lower Bracket are slim.

The complete results of Group A are the following:

  • 1st place: Invictus Gaming: 14 W – 2 L
  • 2nd place: Virtus.pro: 11 W – 5 L
  • 3rd place: OG: 10 W – 6 L
  • 4th place: T1: 10 W – 6 L
  • 5th place: Team Undying: 9 W – 7 L
  • 6th place: Evil Geniuses: 9 W – 7 L
  • 7th place: Team Aster: 5 W – 11 L
  • 8th place: Alliance: 4 W – 12 L
  • 9th place: Thunder Predator: 0 W – 16 L

Group B

The second group of The International 10 was slightly weaker than the first but the matches were still exceptional. In particular, the number 1 favorite to win the tournament, PSG.LGD, confirmed its strength and won the group with ease: 15 W – 1 L. The only opponent that managed to make a dent in their armor was Team Secret. Everyone else was crushed with ease, even though the matches were Bo2.

The other 3 competitors that managed to secure Upper Bracket spots are Team Secret, Vici Gaming, and Team Spirit. All 3 teams finished with the same score: 10 W – 6 L. But what is truly bizarre is that Puppey’s squad defeated both VG and Spirit, drew against PSG.LGD, but somehow managed to lose against beastcoast and Fnatic. This clearly proves that they are highly inconsistent and totally unpredictable.

The team that got eliminated is SG esports. Everyone expected this to happen, so no surprise there. The 4 teams that secured Lower Bracket spots are beastcoast, Quincy Crew, Fnatic, and Elephant. All of them finished with similar results (6 W – 10 L) with the exception of beastcoast (7 W – 9 L). The important thing to keep in mind here is that these matches were Bo2. In a Bo1 or a Bo3, anything can happen.

The biggest surprise in this group was caused by Team Spirit. The CIS squad had to go through regional qualifiers to be here and we can see why they crushed everyone in their region.

The biggest disappointment in this group was Elephant. The Chinese team has a formidable roster and yet it doesn’t seem to synergize very well. Its only victories came against SG and beastcoast. However, the fact that Elephant drew against Secret and Fnatic means that the potential for greatness is there. It just needs to be brought somehow to the surface.

The complete results for this group of TI10 are the following:

  • 1st place: PSG.LGD: 15 W – 1 L
  • 2nd place: Team Secret: 10 W – 6 L
  • 3rd place: Vici Gaming: 10 W – 6 L
  • 4th place: Team Spirit: 10 W – 6 L
  • 5th place: beastcoast: 7 W – 9 L
  • 6th place: Quincy Crew: 6 W – 10 L
  • 7th place: Fnatic: 6 W – 10 L
  • 8th place: Elephant: 6 W – 10 L
  • 9th place: SG esports: 2 W – 14 L
