It’s not entirely clear what’s going on, but Virtus.pro’s management is clearly determined to make some big changes. As of September 23rd, the entire roster has been benched and it’s hard to say who will remain in the end. My intuition tells me that Solo and No[o]ne will be the only survivors. But we need to wait and see.

Virtus.pro’s Recent Results

This team used to be one of the best in the world. In fact, in anything except The International, they really were the best. Major titles, Major Grand Finals and numerous other results made VP a legendary club. Then came the failure that made the roster split: 9th – 12th place at The International 2019. 9pasha left the team, then RAMZES and then RodjER. Each of these players joined a different organization. VP now had to find replacements and improvise. What happened next is a sad bit of history for the CIS club. After bringing in some new players, VP was a completely different team. It was still led by Solo and it had No[o]ne mid, buy the rest of the crew wasn’t doing much work.

Fast forward to the last 4 months and we have a multiple Major winner that’s struggling to finish in the top 4 at important regional tournaments. That’s unnacceptable and probably completely unsustainable for the club, assuming that the players still get decent salaries.

Potential New Members

Without even thinking about it, I know that clubs like to go back to what used to work. Whenever they are put under pressure, the good old movie that everyone has seen dozens of times will do the trick. You know it’s good and you hope that you forgot enough scenes to really enjoy it one more time. And based on the players who are available right now or who are playing for modest clubs, I know for certain that VP is thinking of Lil and 9pasha again. And ideally, if they could bring back RAMZES, that would practically complete the former VP line-up that used to rule the world. Of course, things got even better after RodjER joined and replaced Lil, but I’m sure the team’s management will be perfectly fine with these players for now.

Keep in mind that VP still has Resolut1on to work with. So they may not need RAMZES afterall. However, I do have the impression that the club wants to return to its glory days. Especially now, when the next TI will have a prize pool of over $40 million. They simply cannot afford to miss the action.

RodjER is not an option because he’s taken by Na’Vi. But since Na’Vi and Virtus.pro are practically owned by the same group of people, I think there’s a chance that we could see the old VP line-up back in action at some point in 2020 or 2021. This would be good for the professional scene, as it would provide Team Secret with a real opponent. At this point, Puppey and his crew are unbeatable.
