In spite of all the bad things that happened this year, Team Secret had a spectacular win streak, going from flawless tournament to flawless tournament in the European / CIS regions. This Dota 2 squad took advantage of the chaos that existed throughout the season in all of the other big organizations and dominated the world’s most important Dota 2 tournaments.

Esports Awards 2020

Because of all this success, Secret won 3 prizes at the recent Esports Awards 2020.

Esports Team of the Year

There was hardly any competition for Secret in this department. After winning a Dota Pro Circuit Major in January (DreamLeague Season 13), Secret went on to win 7 tournaments in a row. Every single one of these tournaments had a Bo5 Grand Final and Secret won all of them without losing a single game. In effect, they won 21 Grand Final games consecutively. That level of dominance is extremely hard to match or replicate. Even Astralis, which used to dominate the CS:GO scene and get spectacular results, was losing games, matches and even Grand Finals on occasion. But Secret played on a whole different level this year.

Esports PC Player of the Year – Michal “Nisha” Jankowski

Having followed Nisha for the past two years since he was signed by Secret at the age of 18, I can tell you that he totally deserved this prize. Few carries in the world can do what he does and can play with his level of perfection on heroes like Morphling and Arc Warden. Nisha’s role has been crucial in Team Secret’s success and he clearly proved to be a much stronger position 1 than the squad’s former carry, Ace.

Esports Coach of the Year – Lee “Heen” Seung Gon

This is another result that makes perfect sense in light of what Secret has achieved this year. But if you’ve been watching Dota 2 for at least 3-4 years, you probably know that Heen used to be an absolute legend before he joined Secret. After all, he’s the man who helped Team Liquid win its first Aegis of Champions at The International 2017. Nobody will forget that incredible Lower Bracket run made by KuroKy, Miracle- and the rest of the crew. As for this season, Heen has probably had a huge influence on Secret’s ability to dominate the region so heavily.
