Tahm Kench will finally join the ever-growing Legends of Runeterra champion roster! Bilgewater fans rejoice! Multiple new Deep Dive cards have just been announced, and it was only a matter of time before Riot “unbenched the Kench.” Needless to say, the Bilgewater region has just gotten a whole lot stronger.

There’s a lot of ground to cover, so let’s get down to business!

Monuments of Power — Latest Cards

Tahm Kench is a 4 mana champion with 2 | 6 and a Round Start passive. Whenever a new round begins, Tahm will create “An Acquired Taste” in your hand. To level him up, he’ll have to Capture 3+ units. When that does end up happening, Tahm will Obliterate any Captured enemies and release his allies. When leveled up, Tahm will still create “An Acquired Taste” at the beginning of each round, but he’ll now also Obliterate any Captured enemies and release his allies upon Attacking.

An Acquired Taste” is a 2 mana slow spell that allows Tahm to swallow an enemy unit. Before swallowing, Tahm will take as much damage as that unit has power.

Bayou Brunch” is a 3 mana Slow spell that allows an ally unit to Capture another ally to get its stats. By the looks of it, this will be quite an important card as it’ll empower Tahm in all the right ways.

Detain” is a five mana Fast spell that allows an ally unit to Capture another unit. This is essentially a catalyst to leveling Tahm Kench up as soon as possible. Plus, a nice tool for board removal.

Shakedown” is a 1 mana Burst spell that deals 2 damage to an ally to grant 2 enemies Vulnerable. This card, while somewhat inconspicuous, will be invaluable. You gobble up a couple of key targets, then “remove” another two with “Shakedown” and you’ll have a clear path to the opposing Nexus. Just like that, a simple one-two punch that can be hugely effective (and game-ending) when pulled off correctly.

Wise Fry” is a 6 mana unit with 3 | 8, Overwhelm, Vulnerable, and a Play active. Once summoned, you can deal 1 to all other allies and grant “Wise Fry” +1 | 0 for each ally hit. Overall, a simple, relatively expensive card that’s insanely oppressive.

Legends of Runeterra Tahm Kench

Closing Remarks

Tahm Kench seems like a hugely potent addition to the ever-growing Legends of Runeterra champion roster. He’s beefy, can easily remove opposing targets, and is a nuisance if left unattended. His entire Capture mechanic is not only in tune with the champion and his lore, but is also a much-welcome addition to the game. How strong it’ll end up being still remains to be seen, but there’s a reason for optimism, that’s for sure.

All in all, it seems like Riot has knocked it out of the park. It’s still too early to call this second Call of the Mountain set a success, but if they don’t drop the ball over the coming days, there’s a good chance the meta will shift back to a more balanced state. We’re all fed up with Lee Sin decks, Aurelion Sol ramp, and Daybreak/Nightfall mechanics. They’re great, but it feels like they’re ever-present.

There are two more champions left to be revealed, so stay tuned! As always, we’ll bring you more coverage as things hit the web.
