The release of Street Fighter VI isn’t exactly right around the corner, but we knew that much. What we didn’t know, however, are the many minute details that are endlessly more important. Street Fighter V, for instance, was only released on the PlayStation 4 and PC. It was a strange decision from Capcom, but seeing how Sony funded a good chunk of its development, it’s not like anyone was actually surprised. After all, it was a savvy business move on their end, even though it meant fans and players were basically an afterthought.

Then again, having a fighting game as an exclusive isn’t quite as hype-inducing as it sounds on paper. Street Fighter IV was universally acclaimed for a wide variety of reasons, and it was a commercial success as well, in no small part because of its multiplatform nature.

Street Fighter VI | A Multiplatform Release

With Street Fighter VI, however, no one was too sure what to expect. Fortunately, a recent leak puts those fears to rest, at least for the time being. The upcoming installment of this age-old fan-favorite IP will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. This, in short, is quite exciting news! The fact that fans will once again be able to enjoy Street Fighter regardless of their platform of choice is definitely a cause for celebration! Furthermore, the fact that it’ll span two generations of consoles make this news all the more exciting.

The PS5 and Xbox Series S/X are alluring consoles, that’s for sure, but they’re also somewhat pricey. Plus, they lack a sizable library of games (at the time of this writing). Investing in a next-gen piece of tech might sound fun, but it’s not particularly justified — yet.

Street Fighter VI | Release Date

According to this most recent leak, Capcom is targeting a Q3 2022 release date! This, of course, is far from set in stone but at least it’s a concrete date fans can cling onto. Things will probably change over time, seeing how COVID-19 heavily affects game development so take everything with a grain of salt. Capcom is also planning Super Street Fighter VI for Q4 of 2023, and Ultra SFVI for Q4 of 2024.

Talk about planning ahead! In any case, we’ll bring you more news as it hits the web!
