If you’re a console gamer, you’re surely well acquainted with the PlayStation Plus subscription service. For a meager monthly fee, PS Plus grants its subscribers a couple of new titles each month, with Street Fighter V being on the table for September! As if that wasn’t enough, Sony’s also offering PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (or PUBG for short) to sweeten the deal.

This is absolutely great news for FGC fans and those who always wanted to try Street Fighter out but were reluctant to pay the full asking price. Regularly, the game goes for $19,99. Do have in mind that PS Plus will give you the “vanilla” version of Street Fighter V. This means you’ll be getting the first 16 characters that were initially available and not much else.

If, however, you want the whole shebang, you can upgrade to the Street Fighter V: Championship Edition for $24,99. By doing so, you’ll unlock the remaining 24 characters that were sporadically released as DLC over the years.

Street Fighter V is still one of the most popular and engaging fighting games on the market. It is, however, a bit old by this point. We’ve heard that the sixth installment is well underway and it should be released in a year or two’s time. The current COVID-19 pandemic obviously affected the development process, but supposedly Capcom has things under control.

Alive and Kicking

Street Fighter V, DLC

Fortunately, the fact that a sequel is in development doesn’t mean SFV is dead in the waters. On the contrary! Capcom recently announced that Dan, Rose, Akira Kazama, and Oro will all be joining the ever-growing roster! The fan-favorite Dan will come first in a couple of months, followed by Rose in Spring of 2021. Oro and Akira will follow suit in Summer. There’s also a mysterious unknown character that’s planned for fall of next year, but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to find out who it is.

Either way, Street Fighter is alive and well, both in terms of fan engagement and popularity, and now you’ll be able to play it for free if you have a PS Plus subscription! Make sure to log in and start the download by October 5th.
