Sony doesn’t want anyone to know that Cyberpunk is actually mega successful. Cyberpunk dominates the list of most downloaded games in June 2021 and is one of the most successful PS4 games in June 2021. Weirdly enough though, Sony has not made any advertising for the delayed release.

That makes hardly any sense as Cyberpunk is now the most downloaded PS4 game in June 2021 on the in-house PS Store. Maybe we should dive a little into the past to get some clearance to what is going on. Cyberpunk 2077 was released at the very end of 2020. Unfortunately it was soon taken off the PS Store by Sony due to technical issues.

What changed in the last six months?

Half a year later it returned to the PS Store. Even though the game still has technical issues on the PS4 version, it is now the “most downloaded PS4 game in June 2021 in Europe and the US”. What makes it even more interesting is that the game only returned to the PS Store on June 21, so it reached its peak position in only a few days. Strangely enough, Sony promoted the return of Cyberpunk 2077 only half-heartedly. Well maybe it is because the game doesn’t really run smoothly on the regular PlayStation 4.

According to Forbes, the game is “better than it was back then, but far from perfect”. Although some quest bugs have disappeared, Cyberpunk 2077 does not run that well on PlayStation 4. Sony mentions Cyberpunk 2077 as little as possible and there’s not much of a reference to the game on the store’s page. News reports are completely silent about the return and it seems like Sony doesn’t really want to mention Cyberpunk 2077 and themselves in the same sentence.

In the list of “most downloaded games”, Sony currently places the game in 13th place, even behind Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order or FIFA 21. It is completely missing from “New games”. The return of Cyberpunk 2077 to the store was not really announced by Sony. Only after some journalists asked Sony about it they got the confirmation that Cyberpunk 2077 will return.

But maybe that is going to change now when they realise how popular the game is and how much people love to play it, even if it‘s not 100% perfect.
