The oft-rumored Exynos 2200 chipset from Samsung has been a long time coming; fortunately, its official reveal is right around the corner: January 11th! The biggest reason as to why we’ve all been so eagerly awaiting its release is quite simple: it’ll be the first chipset from Samsung that will stand toe-to-toe with the very best Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Apple have to offer.

How well it’ll perform compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Dimensity 9000, and A15 Bionic still remains to be seen, but we’re expecting great things from Samsung as this South Korean tech giant cannot afford another flop. Exynos was never a great option, in all fairness, but that could very well change in just a couple of weeks.

It has also become quite obvious that for Samsung to compete on even footing, it simply has to manufacture its own silicon. That’s where the Exynos 2200 comes into play and, well, we’d be remiss if we didn’t say that it looks mighty promising!

It’s The GPU That Matters

Mobile gaming is a darn big deal these days, which is why so many SoCs are being evaluated based on their performance in today’s most popular titles. How long can it sustain its clock speeds? How hot will it get? Will it throttle and, if so, when?

Samsung has decided to put all of its eggs into the GPU basket and, frankly, we think it’s a downright phenomenal idea. That’s why they’ve partnered with AMD and will bring their RDNA 2 graphics over to mobile and, with it, hardware-based ray tracing support. Now, don’t expect any miracles here, but that’s a pretty nifty feature, all things considered.

And, more importantly: it’s a unique one. No other company has it (yet) which will allow Samsung to differentiate itself from the crowd — a hugely important benefit that can often yield spectacular results.

The fact that we’ll finally see the Exynos 2200 in action makes us hyped beyond measure; plus, it’s all but guaranteed to be featured in Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S22 series, a line-up of true, jaw-dropping flagships. We’ll be back with more coverage in just a few days, so stay tuned!
