The game is going to receive a host of impactful changes soon. Chalet, one of the few maps to remain untouched since launch, has now received a major overhaul. Sam “Zero” Fisher, a character from the Splinter Cell series, will now join the attacker operators alongside a new hard-breaching gadget. The match replay feature will soon be added to the test servers amongst severe gameplay changes.

SAM FISHER JOINS THE SIEGE

For fans of the Splinter Cell series, Sam Fisher will be a familiar face. He joins the attackers with his powerful rifle and the Argus Launcher, which can shoot a camera through soft and hard walls. This camera can then be activated and used by the attackers. It can also shoot a laser charge to destroy gadgets and hurt operators. However, on impact, the Argus is quite loud and clearly visible. Players will need to find a way to deploy the camera without alerting the defensive side.

CHALET 2.0

The Chalet rework promises to bring quite a few gameplay changes. Most rooms have been opened up and the roof is now accesible for the attackers. The basement remains largely as it was and additional repels will allow for the attackers to climb more of the walls.

PINGS, MAP BANS & REINFORCEMENT POOLS

A new ping system will be added, which reveals more than just the ping location. Now, gadgets can be pinged directly, giving teammates a visual cue. Moreover, the ranked mode will now feature map bans. From a random pool of three maps, teams can each ban one. If they both ban the same, one of the remaining two is chosen at random. Finally, 10 reinforcements will now be available for the entire team, rather than just two per player. This gives roamers the option to set up outside of the site, without having to reinforce walls or waste their reinforcements entirely.

MATCH REPLAYS

Finally, we will be able to replay our past matches. This feature will soon go live on the test servers. While it is still in alpha, it should already provide a great analysis framework for amateurs and pro players alike. One question remains, though. Will we be able to extract replays from other players and teams to analyze like in CS:GO? There, you can download demos from virtually all professional matches to rewatch.

REINFORCED ROOF HATCHES & HARD BREACH GADGET

These two additions might completely change the way we play Siege. Until now, teams were basically forced to pick one or two hard breachers if they wanted to have a chance in the round. Now, a bunch of operators will receive a hard breach secondary utility. This device will take long to deploy and will only open up a small hole. Unlike with Maverick or Thermite, players won’t be able to run through the opening. Instead, they will have to vault or crouch. Additionally, roof hatches will now be reinforced by default. Previously, defenders were unable to do this, making it difficult – if not impossible – to contest these hatches. Now, they can use the Mute and Kaid gadgets to keep the hatches closed for longer.

These changes signal a monumental shift for Siege. We might have a completely different game on our hands in a few months of time. For now, we can only patiently wait for the new features to deploy.
