This weekend will decide which teams make the European League Top 4. So far, it’s looked as if BDS and Natus Vincere will be able to retain their top spots. But will it actually stay this way?

Stéphane “Shaiiko” Lebleu and his men continue with last year’s streak. BDS Esport are the arguably best European team. After all, they’ve only had to suffer one overtime loss. They won all their other matches and are at the top of EUL with an astonishing 19 points. With their 17 points, Natus Vincere aren’t that far behind, but if the Frenchmen win both of their games, they will be impossible to catch up with.

On their last match-day, NaVi will have to surpass one last hurdle. G2 Esports are waiting for them, currently sitting in fourth place. So far, G2 have definitely not shown their full potential, and with a victory, they could still remove the NaVi players from their second-place spot. The same holds true for Cowana Gaming and BDS.

COWANA, THE SURPRISE PERFORMERS

Barely anyone could have anticipated the rise of this team. After losing their in-game-leader Jordan “Kayak” Morley to G2, their performance should have worsened. But now, they’re in third place – in front of G2 Esports – with a real shot at keeping it this way.

Their Vitality duel might still be manageable, but prior to that they will have to face BDS. Out of all the EUL teams, the Frenchmen are probably the worst to go up against, with a real chance of making it past Cowana. Even worse – the head-to-head comparison would put Cowana behind G2 Esports. For that to happen, however, G2 would need two victories. How likely is that to happen?

G2, ROGUE, VITALITY ARE MIDDLE-OF-THE-PACK

For Kayak and his men, these last two days will be particularly tough. Sure, two victories might still grant them a place in the Top 3, but they’ll have to survive against Rogue and NaVi. The latter seem impossible to beat, and even Rogue have recorded a few solid victories throughout the season. Even though there is still the potential of making a higher place, G2 Esports are also in danger of dropping even further.

After all, Vitality are also waiting for their chance to surpass them. Their victory over TrainHard is all but a done deal, but later they’ll have to contend with Cowana. Just like the other teams in the middle of the standings, they have no clear path to the Top 4, but at least they have left the back-markers of Stage 1 behind them.

EMPIRE AND SECRET AT THE BOTTOM

This is quite a shocking descent for the winners of the November Major. Team Empire had ended their 2020 campaign on a high note. Their fans were eagerly awaiting them to sweep the new season, but so far, the organization has not recorded one single regulation victory in EUL Season 2. Overtime points against G2 and TrainHard are barely keeping them in second-to-last place. Now, they also need to go up against NaVi, which will surely not improve on their situation. At the very least, they’ll have better chances versus Secret.

Peter “pacbull” Bull has turned his back on the team, and now Secret are in the worst state ever. Their upcoming two engagements also don’t inspire a lot of confidence in them. They will probably end the stage better off than TrainHard Esport, but that’s not really an achievement.

After all, the Frenchmen have barely shown up to the server in the first stage. A victory over Secret is all they can muster, otherwise they have almost exclusively recorded decisive losses. The Tempra roster that managed to impress back in November is now split up, and all the worst parts have seemingly gone to the TrainHard roster.

So the last two match-days remain exciting. The teams have the potential to really shake up the standings for one last time. G2 will have to fight for their placement and BDS will try to keep a clear head in their race for first place.
