Just as I predicted prior to the start of the match, Quincy Crew managed to win the Grand Final of ESL One Thailand 2020. In this article, I will take a closer look at how they did it and what this victory says about them.

ESL One Thailand 2020 Americas Results

ESL One Thailand 2020 Americas provided 3 weeks of great matches. The tournament didn’t start well for its eventual winner. Quincy Crew lost against 4 Zoomers, which used a very effective Terrorblade strategy against them. The match was over in less than 65 minutes (in total) and signaled a potential lack of training on QC’s part. But over the next 3 weeks, Quincy Crew defeated every single opponent and qualified for the Playoffs from 1st place: 6 wins – 1 loss.

In the Playoffs, they quickly lost to 4 Zoomers and then had to defeat Infamous and 4 Zoomers in order to reach the Grand Final. By contrast, Thunder Predator had finished 3rd in the Group Stage with 4 wins and 3 losses. But the South American team managed to win both Upper Bracket matches and qualified for the Grand Final. And that’s where our story begins.

Grand Final

The match looked like it was going to end in 4 games. And that’s because Thunder Predator had an important lead in game: 1.4K until around minute 14.  Basically, when QC’s Axe got his Blink Dagger, the game was over. Nobody expected the quick escalation that followed. But basically, between minute 14 and minute 24, Quincy Crew accumulated a 6K gold lead. That was practically game winning.

In the second game of the match, we’ve witnessed one of the worst beatings in recent memory at the pro level. Over the course of just 15 minutes, Quincy Crew abused its early game spike with heroes like Viper, Nature’s Prophet, and Treant Protector and actually closed the game. It was a horrific show that went from a 400 gold advantage to a 4K gold advantage by minute 9. By minute 15, the amount was 15K.

And finally, the 3rd and final game was a bit longer: almost 40 minutes. Quincy used a Drow Ranger + Tiny + Ember Spirit strategy, while Thunder Predator tried a Terrorblade strat with an Axe for the early game to make space for TB. It didn’t work. Quincy had the advantage from the start and never lost it for a minute during the fight. Everyone on QC got an excellent KDA and the match ended with a score of 46 – 17. That’s extremely one-sided.

And with that, Quincy Crew became champions of ESL One Thailand 2020: Americas. It wasn’t a bad win. But it’s not something impressive either. However, given the current situation, I think it will be another year till we see big global events again. And under these conditions, we can say that QC won a tournament that featured the best teams in the Americas.
