NVIDIA DLSS Coming to Call of Duty: Warzone

NVIDIA DLSS, the groundbreaking AI rendering technology from the world’s leading GPU provider, is coming to Call of Duty:... | 20. April 2021

NVIDIA DLSS, the groundbreaking AI rendering technology from the world’s leading GPU provider, is coming to Call of Duty: Warzone on the 22nd of April! This, in short, is spectacular news for a wide variety of reasons!

But before we delve any deeper, let’s first go over what DLSS really is and why this is so important not just today but in the long run as well!

What’s DLSS, And Why Is It Important?

NVIDIA arguably describes it best: DLSS taps into the power of a deep learning neural network to boost frame rates and generate beautiful, sharp images for your games. In wholly layman’s terms, it’s a setting you switch on and get a mind-blowing FPS boost — anywhere between 30% and +100%, depending on the title and GPU of choice. That, in short, is astounding. Now, DLSS wasn’t always this amazing, but with NVIDIA’s second-generation RTX graphics cards, they were able to not only perfect this technology (often called DLSS 2.0), but also improve their hardware as well (i.e. add more Tensor cores and use a more efficient manufacturing process).

It’s some serious cutting-edge stuff, and it really does work like magic.

Now, not all games support DLSS (far from it, in fact), but we’re moving towards such a future at a staggering pace. Once we reach it, it’ll be a win-win situation for everyone, including NVIDIA whose GPUs will become even more alluring than they are right now. AMD supposedly has a similar feature in the pipeline, but it’s still unknown as to when it’ll see the light of day.

If you want to see DLSS in action, you can check out the following video:

The best part about this is the fact that we’re getting all that performance without any noticeable drop-off in graphical fidelity. That’s why so many folks describe it as “magical” — it boggles the mind, the sheer concept of it all.

This means that, sometime in the not-so-distant future, you’ll be able to attain incredible FPS counts without having to splurge a thousand dollars on a beastly graphics card. Something like the RTX 3060 or 3060 Ti will do just fine! Heck, an RTX 3050 Ti might even do the trick, although we can’t know for certain until we see that GPU in action.

This will lower the cost of gaming rigs, lower the barrier to entry, and also make high refresh rate gaming a lot more attainable — even in triple A titles that have historically always required the most potent graphics cards to deliver over 100 FPS (at least when the settings are maxed out).

NVIDIA DLSS

A Truly Incredible Performance Boost

A Big Deal for CoD Fans

Marrying NVIDIA’s DLSS with Call of Duty: Warzone makes all the sense in the world. Warzone is one of the most popular games on the planet right now and has a staggeringly passionate playerbase. Giving these individuals extra performance (without any drop-off in visual quality) makes a metric ton of sense. Of course, a fairly small number of them own NVIDIA’s RTX graphics cards, but with DLSS now becoming a lot more widespread, they’ll probably look to pick one up in the future as it’ll provide them with a mind-blowing performance boost free of charge. That’s not only a good move on NVIDIA’s part but also an ingenious marketing strategy — truly a win-win for everyone involved.

Now, Warzone is by no means the most demanding game in the world, but it’s definitely a lot more hardware-intensive than most other esports titles and Battle Royales. Now, you don’t need the best GPU in the world to reach that oh-so-important 60 FPS mark, but if you’re looking to game at 1440p or even 4K (and actually reach 144 FPS), then DLSS will be an absolute must.

Either way, we’re elated that DLSS is slowly becoming the norm, and we can’t wait to see it implemented in other titles as well!
