NVIDIA Announces RTX 2050, MX550 and MX570 For Entry-Level Gaming Laptops

NVIDIA has just announced three very interesting laptop GPUs: the RTX 2050, MX550, and MX570, all of which are expected to hit the market in just a few months! We knew this was in the pipeline, but it’s still surprising to see it revealed mere days after the initial report.

“Team green” sure does move fast and, well, it’s easy to understand why: they want to get a leg up over their competition as soon as possible. As is so often the case, it’s not necessarily the best product that ends up selling but rather the one that manages to get in the “public’s eye.” And, needless to say, NVIDIA are masters at this.

Interestingly enough, the RTX 2050 — the most powerful of the bunch — will be based on NVIDIA’s Turing architecture. The MX550 and MX570, on the other hand, are both Ampere SKUs. It seems that NVIDIA is going “all out” on this one in an attempt to compete with AMD’s upcoming “Rembrandt” APUs and whatever Intel has in the pipeline.

A Varied Line-Up

The GeForce RTX 2050 will have a TGP of up to 45W and a boost clock of up to 1477 Mhz. This, along with 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM (running across a 64-bit bus) should suffice for basically all modern titles at High(ish) settings. Nothing overly spectacular but wholly sufficient regardless. Fortunately, it’ll support all of NVIDIA’s bespoke features like DLSS, ray tracing, Reflex, and so on.

The MX570 is the most powerful MX variant NVIDIA has ever made and will be based on the GA107/108 die with ±2048 CUDA cores. TGP-wise, it’ll be rated at around 25W making it perfect for thin and light ultrabooks. The MX550, on the other hand, will have the same architecture but a lower TGP (15W). It won’t exactly be a stellar option for gaming, but most esports titles will definitely be playable at maxed out settings.

Both MX variants will supposedly come with 2GB of VRAM which is quite limiting but also wholly expected. All three GPUs are expected to ship by the end of Q1 2022, so we’ll definitely have a lot more to talk about in just a few months’ time!
