As expected, a bunch of brand-new Legends of Runeterra cards from Piltover & Zaun have just been revealed! This might not be as exciting as a full-fledged champion reveal, but it’s nothing to scoff at regardless! So let’s delve deeper into these peculiar P&Z cards to see what they’ll bring to the table and how they could affect the meta going forward!

These cards are by no means ground-breaking, but they will definitely go a long way towards empowering the (recently revealed) Augment keyword. It’s quite a fascinating concept, and now we’re witnessing it in its full glory with a bunch of bespoke additions to the game!

Zaunite Innovation | New LoR Piltover & Zaun Cards

Seven brand-new cards have been showcased (six including a token, to be more exact). All seven, of course, come from Piltover & Zaun which means Viktor’s reveal is right around the corner.

Armed Gearhead” is a 1 mana unit with 1 | 1, along with the Augment and Quick Attack keywords. A simple unit, for sure, but potentially quite a strong one too if empowered quickly enough.

Calculated Creations” is a 2 mana Burst spell. Once activated, it’ll create one of the following in your hand: “Armed Gearhead,” “Nyandroid,” or “Ballistic Bot.” A simple, cheap spell with a clear goal: to populate your board with units and augment them as soon as possible.

Nyandroid” is a 3 mana unit with 1 | 3, along with the Augment and Elusive keywords. Nothing overly complicated. The interesting part is that it’s Elusive, so if you manage to beef it up quickly it’ll definitely become a problem!

Ballistic Bot” is a 2 mana unit with 1 | 3. It only has the Augment keyword, but at least it’s packing a great effect. At the start of each round you’ll get a free “Ignition” in hand.

Ignition” is a 1 mana Slow spell that’s Fleeting. Once activated, it’ll deal 1 damage to the enemy Nexus. Now, this is by no means an obscene amount of damage, but its main point is to augment and therefore empower your units. Dealing Nexus damage is just icing on the cake!

Hexcore Foundry” is a 3 mana Piltover & Zaun landmark. Unlike some other landmarks that are currently in the game, this one is as straight-forward as possible. At the start of each round, both you and your opponent will draw an additional card. Overall, this is a nice way to speed things up a bit and get even more units on the board.

Aftershock” is a 4 mana Slow spell that’ll deal 3 damage to anything or destroy a landmark. Again, nothing overly complicated — a standard (relatively cost-effective) removal spell.

You can notice a trend here, basically. These cards are all simple and straight-forward by design. That doesn’t mean there’s no potential for skill expression, however. Your main goal is to summon as many units as you can, empower them with quick effects and eventually overwhelm your opponent. Viktor, in that sense, will probably just build on that whole thematic.

Either way, it’s a user-friendly playstyle that’ll surely become pretty popular if it ends up being even remotely competitive.

Cosmic Creation | What to Expect

The third set of the Call of the Mountain expansion (called “Cosmic Creation”) is shaping up to be quite an interesting addition. Getting a new keyword is always exciting as it changes the game we all love in nuanced ways. These Piltover & Zaun cards will by no means alter Legends of Runeterra in any ground-breaking manner, but they’ll at least offer a new take on an already familiar formula. And that’s more than enough at this point in time.

In any case, we’re getting another batch of cards tomorrow night so stay tuned! As always, we’ll bring you more coverage as things hit the web!
