LPL Summer 2021 Grand Final Predictions and Analysis

LPL Summer 2021 is coming to an end today with a match between two titans: FunPlus Phoenix and EDward Gaming. These are the teams that finished 1st and 2nd place respectively in the Group Stage of LPL Summer 2021, so this is one of the most anticipated Grand Finals of the Summer Split.

FPX’s Chances

FunPlus Phoenix has been one of the greatest teams in LPL in the last 3 seasons. Winners of Worlds 2019 and runner-ups in LPL Spring 2021, FPX look ready to finally win another LPL Split. Their last victory was at LPL Summer 2019. In the Group Stage, this squad only lost 3 matches and none of the opponents that beat them are left in the race.

Initially, people were afraid that LNG Esports, one of the teams that crushed them during the regular season, would defeat them again in the Upper Bracket Round 1. However, FPX won the match with ease. The final score was 3 – 0. And then in the Upper Bracket Final, they got the same result against Team WE, which in turn had defeated EDward Gaming (3 – 2).

The reason why it’s difficult to assume that FPX will 100% win this match is that EDward Gaming showed numerous signs of strength during the Playoffs, as well as the Group Stage. Despite losing to WE, it beat LNG (3 – 1) and then crushed WE in the second match, which took place in the Lower Bracket Final.

Overall, FPX is stronger than EDG. But not by much. The direct match that took place between the two teams in the Group Stage ended with a score of 2 – 1 in favor of FPX. For this Grand Final, I expect a score of 3 – 2 in their favor.

EDward Gaming’s Chances

EDG is not a bad team. Its roster has great players like Scout and Clearlove, and its results in 2021 have been good. They finished LPL Spring in 3rd place and the Group Stage of LPL Summer 2021 in 2nd place.

As I said above, the skill difference between these two competitors is rather small. But when it’s all said and done, FPX should be the winner.
