LPL Spring 2021 is about to enter its last 6 matches. This is the Upper Bracket phase that follows the Round of 10, Round of 8, and Round of 6 matches. Before I take a look at the upcoming battles, let’s see what happened so far in the Playoffs.

Round of 10

In the Round of 10 matches, Rare Atom won against Invictus Gaming (3 – 2) while Suning demolished LNG Esports (3 – 0). Both of these results were expected, simply because the winners were the favorites ahead of the matches. In particular, Suning finished 2nd at Worlds 2020 while LNG is a regional nobody, so the 3 – 0 result makes perfect sense.

Round of 8

The Round of 8 matches ended with two more predictable results. FunPlus Phoenix, the Worlds 2019 champions, defeated Rare Atom (3 – 1) while Suning smashed another opponent, Team WE, without losing a single game.

Round of 6

So far, only of the 2 Round of 6 matches was played. FunPlus Phoenix defeated JD Gaming with a score of 3 – 1. In the second match, Top Esports will fight against Suning, a team they lost against in the Semifinals of Worlds 2020. Subsequently, this will probably be a challenging match for them. My prediction is that Suning is going to win. Their current form is impressive. Top Esports may have had a better record overall in the Group Stage (12 W – 4 L compared to Suning’s 10 W – 6 L), but ON’s squad is still the favorite.

Upper Bracket Round 1

In the Upper Bracket Round 1 of LPL Spring 2021, Royal Never Give Up will encounter FunPlus Phoenix while EDward Gaming will play against the winner of the match between Top Esports and Suning. So most likely, the second match of this phase will be EDward Gaming versus Suning.

RNG already played against FPX in the Group Stage and won the match with a score of 2 – 0. However, FPX upgraded their playstyle quite a bit since then, which is one of the reasons why they’re still in the race. It’s hard to predict what will happen in a Bo5, but it’s hard to get over the fact that RNG finished the Group Stage with a record of 14 W – 2 L. This is a very impressive result. If Royal Never Give Up play their next match the same way they did in the round-robin, it’s going to be very hard for FunPlus Phoenix to stop them.
