Four brand-new Piltover & Zaun cards from the “Rise of the Underworlds” expansion have just been unveiled and, as expected, they’ve set the stage for Ekko’s grand reveal! Still, four cards is nothing overly impressive in terms of sheer volume, so if you’re not super into P&Z, there’s really nothing for you to sink your teeth into.

Regardless, these cards will surely become mainstays in the upcoming meta, so there’s definitely a reason to read the fine print! Legends of Runeterra will look a lot different once this new expansion hits live servers on June 30th, so if you’re a competitive player you’d be wise to start theorycrafting!

As always, let’s take a closer look at what was just announced!

‘Rise of the Underworlds’ | New Piltover & Zaun Cards

Timewinder is a 2 mana Fast spell. To play it, you’ll first have to discard 1. Once that’s done, deal 1 damage to an enemy or the enemy Nexus, and then 1 to another. Basically a cheaper Statikk Shock.

Dropboarder is a 1 mana unit with 1 | 3. If you happen to see it in a Prediction, you’ll automatically get to summon it.

Time Trick is a 2 mana Burst spell that’ll alow you to Predict and then draw a card. Simple, easy to use, and effective. In fact, we’d go a step further and say that’s it’s downright OP. To be able to Predict and then (as if that wasn’t enough) draw another card — all for just two mana? Bonkers, really.

Practical Perfectionist is a 3 mana unit with 4 | 2 along with a Play effect. Once it is brought onto the board, you’ll get to Predict and then create 3 copies of the chosen card in your deck. Talk about a hugely powerful effect — all for just three mana! This is undoubtedly the most interesting card of the bunch, and it’s truly packed with potential.

Moreover, it’s now obvious that Ekko will be paired with Zilean, seeing how both champions will rely heavily on the Predict mechanic. Whether or not this peculiar pairing will be able to upend the current meta still remains to be seen. We’ll find out soon enough!

Rek’Sai and Pyke are both packed with potential, so we’re sure that Riot will deliver with Ekko as well. Tune in tomorrow for the final reveal before “Rise of the Underworlds” is shipped to live servers! As always, we’ll be back with more post-patch coverage, so stay tuned!
