League of Legends – Perkz Set to Part Ways With Cloud9

Despite having only joined the organization in November last year, Luka “Perkz” Perkovic, appears set to part ways with Cloud9, having been made available for buyout by the North American giants. The Croatian joined Cloud9 in a deal worth an estimated $5 million, however the 23-year-old is believed to be closing in on a return to the LEC.

While the news will come as a surprise to some League of Legends followers, things have not worked out as planned for either Perkz or Cloud9. The mid laner is undoubtedly one of the best Western players of all time, with the former G2 favorite having taken just a single Split to make history with G2. With Perkz on board, Cloud9 won the LCD 2021 Spring Split, before claiming glory at the LCD 2021 Mid-Season Showdown too. As a result, Perkz will potentially feel that he has nothing left to prove in North America.

Why Perkz Wishes to Return to Europe

While he will have to renege on his lucrative three-year deal with Cloud9, Perkz looks set to prioritize his happiness over money, having played at the highest level for a number of years now. A report by Jacob Wolf now claims that Cloud9 have made Perkz available for buyout, which would tempt a number of teams in the LEC.

“Family reasons” are also believed to be a reason for the potential switch, with Perkz also reportedly considering forming his own team, which could well feature Barney “Alphari” Morris in the top lane. Perkz remains one of, if not the, standout players in the LoL scene, with Team Vitality having been put forward as one team having the finances available to pursue such a deal.

Who Will Make a Play For Perkz?

Vitality have been hoping to challenge for the LEC title for years, with the building of a superteam perhaps being the way forward. The arrival of Perkz would certainly put them well on the way. The LEC looks strong for 2022, with there being unlikely to be a mass exodus, as we have seen in other years.

Should Perkz return, its competitiveness would only increase. Barney “Alphari” Morris could well join Perkz in making the switch back to Europe, with the Team Liquid top laner believed to be on the wishlist for many LEC teams.
Further news surrounding the future of Perkz will follow over the coming weeks, with the Croatian likely to be firmly in charge of what lies next.
