Following rumors from Reuters last month, it has now been made official that Ninjas in Pyjamas will merge with Chinese company ESV5. The famous Swedish Esports organization will be entering the League of Legends scene once again as a result, competing in China’s LPL.

Speaking upon the announcement, Ninjas in Pyjamas made the following statement: “Today we’re taking a massive step towards that goal by entering a new market together with Chinese esports group ESV5 to create NIP Group — a global organization that fields teams in all the major esports titles.”

What else we know about the Deal

It is also anticipated that the new firm could well be listed on the American NASDAQ by the end of 2021. Should they achieve such a feat, NiP would become the first Esports org to feature on the New York-based stock exchange.

The two parties have already projected a combined revenue of over 400 million yuan for this year, which is the equivalent of more than $60 million. Such figures again come from a report from Reuters.

Why NiP’s return to League of Legends is a big deal

From their joint statement, we also know that Ninjas in Pyjamas and ESV5 have agreed the deal via an equity exchange. V5 will have to wait until the 2022 LPL Summer Split to compete under the banner of Ninjas in Pyjamas, due to regulations from developer Riot Games. ESV5 is owned by Chinese streaming platform DouYu and look after the LPL Shenzhen home venue.

While Ninjas in Pyjamas also compete in other Esports titles, such as Rainbow Six, FIFA and VALORANT, the deal with ESV5 will see them return to League of Legends for the first time since 2018.
