Rumors surfaced last week that Raphael “Targamas” Crabbe was to become the new support for G2 Esports. It now appears that such speculation is true, with the Belgian likely to be unveiled by the leading organization at some point this week. The 21-year-old currently plays for Karmine Corp, having made his name at the academy lineups of Vitality and Fnatic.

The initial report came from Dot Esports, with Targamas now being set to make the step up from the European Regional leagues to the big time. Having become a free agent on October 6, Targamas will become G2’s first new arrival of the offseason, as they begin a significant rebuild.

Why G2 Selected Targamas

Targamas was one of the obvious choices for G2, with the Belgian having enjoyed a standout season for Karmine Corp. The duo won the Ligue Francaise de League of Legends in the Spring, as well as the European Masters main event in the Spring and Summer. Despite finishing as runners-up at both the LFL Summer Playoffs and LFC 2021 Finals, things could not have gone much better for the team. Targamas’ biggest achievement to date came when he competed in the League of Legends Championship series for Giants Gaming in 2017.

G2 had been on the lookout for a new support player, with current player Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle set to depart the org. The Russian has been with G2 for the past three seasons, however his future is very much up in the air. With Mikyx on board, G2 won the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational, while the team also made it through to the League of Legends World Championship Finals in the same year. He will certainly be a major loss, with Mikyx having also won no fewer than four splits with the European team.

Why It is All Change at G2 Ahead of the 2022 Season

G2 go into the offseason off the back of a hugely disappointing campaign in 2021, leading to the org deciding to replace three of their starting roster ahead of the new season. G2 has also parted ways with a host of coaching staff too. At present, it is only Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski and Rasmus “Caps” Winther that Targamas is confirmed to be teaming up with at G2.

In a period of dramatic change for the org, it has been speculated that ex-Riot Games General Manager, Romain Bigeard, will be joining G2 in 2022. The Frenchman acted as Business Development Manager for the LEC, having also operated as GM for other Esports organizations, in both North America and Europe.
