On the third day of the Allied Esports Odyssey tournament, G2 Esports and Team Liquid took over the first two spots in the standings. Winning their matches with relative ease, they are now just two days away from the playoffs.

GIANTS MAKING FPX SWEAT

Yesterday, Giants had disappointed against Liquid. They had been unable to win more than 5 rounds over the course of two maps, a shocking result for an otherwise strong team. On Day 3, however, they finally managed to improve on their performance.

Starting off on Haven, Giants ran up a huge lead against FunPlus Phoenix. Thanks to the efforts of Adolfo “Fit1nho” Gallego, the team led 9-3 at half time. On the defense, FPX were unable to mount a comeback. In the end, Giants took the match on a 13-7 score line.

On Ascent, FPX finally proved to be the stronger team. Pontus “Zyppan” Eek led the charge with 16 kills. This might not sound like much, but the game only lasted 13 rounds in total. Yes, FPX achieved the perfect sweep! Actually, it was a team effort, as all players contributed towards this decisive victory.

Still, the Spaniards have shown some resilience and skill. With Giants entering the fray, the Ninjas in Pyjamas and FPX need to be cautious. Right now, they are still relatively comfortably placed within the Top Four, but if Giants start winning games, they could throw one of these teams out of the event.

BBL CAN’T CATCH A BREAK

The losing streak continues on for the Turkish roster. Coming in from the open qualifier, they were arguably never really on par with the rest of the playing field. Unfortunately, Liquid showed no mercy in their Best-of-Two today. Adil “ScreaM” Benrlitom, despite playing in the backlines most of the time, absolutely dismantled BBL. With 41 kills and an average combat score of 271, he was the star of the match.

G2 REBOUND AGAINST NIP

After yesterday’s defeat against Team Liquid, G2 were looking to get back to the top of the standings. Unfortunately, David “davidP” Prins was notified of his father’s passing during the match, which arguably contributed to the team going out with an 0-2 loss. Today, they were back in action.

While davidP understandably struggled to perform, Óscar “mixwell” Cañellas and Ardis “ardiis” Svarenieks took the lead. Ascent was a close affair, with G2 edging out the win on a 13-11 score line. There, Patryk “patitek” Fabrowski racked up 27 kills on his lonesome.

On Bind, G2 didn’t have to go the full distance. They amassed a sizeable lead in the first half, switching to the attacking side with a 9-3 lead. The Ninjas attempted to equalize the score line, but failed in a few key scenarios. With mixwell achieving a 330 average combat score, G2 took the map 13-8.

Right now, Liquid sit on top of the standings. G2 follow closely, but FPX and NiP are close behind. While the top two teams are arguably already safe with regards to their playoffs spots, they can still be overtaken in their top positions. Tomorrow, FPX will probably get a freebie in their match against BBL. G2 Esports will lock horns with Giants and the Ninjas in Pyjamas will have to give their all against Team Liquid.
