League of Legends coaches Daeny & Zefa fired by T1. Having spent just seven months with the organization, coaching duo “Daeny” and “Zefa” have been let go by T1. The two world champions were fired following a disappointing run in the LCK, with T1 currently sitting in sixth position in the standings, thanks to a 5-5 record.
Speaking on the departure of the head coaches, T1 stated that: “T1 has terminated the contracts of “Daeny” and “Zefa” after careful consideration and internal evaluation over the past few months. We are making this change at this point in an effort to reinvigorate our team’s chances of success with eight games remaining.”
Why things did not work out for Daeny & Zefa
Daeny and Zefa were brought in by T1 after leading DAMWON Gaming to glory at the 2020 World Championships. However, with the org having had hopes of achieving similar success this year, T1 ultimately missed out on a place at the worlds for only the third time in their history. The likes of DWG KIA, Gen.G, Afreeca Freecs and Nongshim RedForce all sit ahead of T1 in the LCK standings at present. T1 has a win rate of just 57% so far this year, with Daeny and Zefa having finished their time with the org with a win-loss record of 17-13.
What the future holds for the T1 coaching setup
Speaking to fans on Twitter, T1 stated that: “We still have high hopes to finish strong in the LCK and earn a spot at Worlds.” It is not yet known as to who will stand in for the duo, with T1 taking on KT Rolster on Thursday July 15.
Some fans did not take too kindly to the news, in particular the timing of the announcement. With it being such a crucial stage of the season, it remains to be seen as to whether the departures of Daeny and Zefa will have a positive impact on the team. The T1 League of Legends roster is made up by Canna, Cuxx, Faker, Teddy, Keria, Zeus, Ellim, Oner, Gumayusi and Clozer.
