We finally have a bit of Tekken 7 news: Kunimitsu will be joining the ever-growing fighter roster as a part of the Season 4 DLC pass! Season four will bring two new fighters, two stages, and a bevy of game and system changes. Kunimitsu, in particular, is quite a welcome addition! The first time we saw her was all the way back in 1995 with Tekken 2. She didn’t get a lot of love from Namco over the years, other than just a single appearance in Tekken Revolution (2013).
You can watch the entire Kunimitsu Tekken 7 announcement trailer below:
She’s sporting a somewhat updated appearance, but it’s still the same old Kunimitsu fans are well-acquainted with. Still, some are speculating that this isn’t the same character from the nineties, but instead her daughter. It’s certainly possible, seeing how this Kunimitsu doesn’t seem to be blind.
The footage from the trailer is still not finalized, but it does give us a pretty good look at what Kunimitsu will be able to do once she joins the Tekken 7 roster! As expected, she’s quick and nimble, but her speed comes at a cost: damage output and range. Pretty standard fare when it comes to Tekken fighter balancing.
Kunimitsu will be released in Q4 of 2020, along with a brand-new map called Vermillion Gates. After that, Bandai Namco has another fighter and stage slated for release in Q2 of 2021. We still don’t know what’s in store, but we’re bound to find out over the coming weeks and months. There are also a couple of free updates planned as well: new moves, an updated user interface, upgraded online gameplay, and last but not least a redesigned ranking system.
Overall, these are quite exciting changes! Tekken might not be insanely popular these days, but it’s still an OG fighting game series. Millions of fans spread across the globe are still playing it, and will no doubt enjoy the upcoming season pass.
There’s still no official release date, but as always we’ll bring you more coverage as things develop!
