After finishing 7th in LEC Spring 2021, Misfits Gaming started LEC Summer 2021 with a rather shocking string of victories. The team is currently sitting at the top of the standings table with 6 wins and just 1 loss. But the 4th competitive week is about to begin and the two matches they’ll have to play might put an end to this madness.

LEC Summer 2021 Partial Results

So far LEC Summer 2021 has had a lot of unexpected results. Take for instance the case of MAD Lions, who won LEC Spring 2021 and then went on to finish 3rd – 4th at Mid-Season Invitational. Prior to the ongoing Split, you would have expected such a great team to win almost every match. But their current record is 4 wins – 3 losses. How is that even possible? The answer isn’t simple, but I’m sure it has something to do with the Bo1 match format.

Here’s a complete list of the results for the first 3 weeks:

  • Misfits Gaming: 6 W – 1 L
  • Fnatic: 5 W – 2 L
  • Rogue: 5 W – 2 L
  • Team Vitality: 4 W – 3 L
  • G2 Esports: 4 W – 3 L
  • MAD Lions: 4 W – 3 L
  • Astralis: 2 W – 5 L
  • Excel Esports: 2 W – 5 L
  • FC Schalke 04 Esports: 2 W – 5 L
  • SK Gaming: 1 W – 6 L

Quite clearly, there’s a big skill difference between the top 6 teams and the bottom 4.

Week 4 Predictions

Week 4 of LEC Summer 2021 features 10 matches. Three of these are worth watching.

Misfits Gaming versus MAD Lions

These two teams encountered each other two times during LEC Spring 2021. And both matches were won by Misfits. Now, when Woolite’s team seems to have reached its performance peak, I think it’s safe to say that its odds of success are much higher than MAD’s.

Misfits Gaming versus G2 Esports

This should be a tough match for both teams. G2 won both matches during LEC Spring 2021 but their current form is poor. In its last two matches, G2 lost against Fnatic and Vitality. Two strong opponents, it’s true, but they shouldn’t have lost both of them.

If Misfits is to be stopped, G2 needs to do it in this match. Perhaps MAD Lions can do it sooner, but their ability to win is questionable. G2, however, only needs to repeat their performance from the previous Split.

Rogue versus MAD Lions

This is going to be a great rematch and I’m curious if Rogue can actually win this time. The previous match between these two teams ended with a spectacular reversal. Rogue was leading by 2 games in the Grand Final of LEC Spring 2021 and MAD ended up winning the match with a score of 3 – 2. Much seems to have changed since then and Rogue is now a hard team to beat. So I doubt that MAD can repeat the performance from last time.
