The Group Stage of IEM Fall: Europe ended this past Sunday and the results are very impressive in some cases and very disappointing in others.

IEM Fall: Europe Groups

Here’s a summary of what happened in each of the 4 groups:

Group A

Ahead of the competition, Group A had 3 favorites: G2, mousesports, and BIG. And none of them won. Instead, it was Copenhagen Flames that shocked everyone and finished the group with 5 consecutive victories. The 2nd and 3rd places were occupied by G2 and BIG. To everyone’s disappointment, mousesports failed to qualify. Luckly for them, their FLASHPOINT result pretty much grants them a ticket to the Stockholm Major. Otherwise, this IEM Fall: Europe result would have been a complete disaster.

Group B

In Group B of IEM Fall: Europe, Astralis proved to be a very strong team in its new formula while Heroic came close to elimination. The biggest surprise in this group was Movistar Riders. The Spanish squad finished in 2nd place with a record of 3 wins – 2 losses and will play against NiP in the Quarterfinals.

With this clean result (5 W – 0 L), Astralis goes into the Playoffs of IEM Fall: Europe with a real chance of claiming the title. But even more importantly, it has a real shot at securing one of the Legend spots at the Stockholm Major.

Group C

Group C was dominated by Vitality and ENCE. The 3rd place was claimed by OG. Vitality was certainly expected to get an excellent result, but ENCE wasn’t. So the fact that Snappi’s team did so well in this group should sound an alarm for G2, who will be their rival in the Quarterfinals.

Unfortunately for OG, their hopes of going to the Major were crushed by this result. For ENCE, however, the 1406 points they got so far will be enough to grant them a Challenger spot.

Group D

In Group D, NiP had one of the best performances we’ve seen from them in a long time. Device and his crew finished with 5 consecutive victories against opponents like FaZe, Fnatic, and Fiend. Thanks to this result, NiP is now extremely close to securing a Legend spot at the Major.

Unfortunately for FaZe Clan, they only managed to finish 3rd. Combined with the other poor results they got throughout the year, this failure has ruined their chance of attending the upcoming PGL Major.

To everyone’s surprise, the 2nd place in Group D of IEM Fall: Europe was occupied by Team Fiend. Thanks to this result, this squad will now go to the Major.
