Guild Esports has partnered with Difference Makers, which will aid the promotion of science, tecnology, engineering and maths (STEM), as well as education and sustainability surrounding competitive gaming.
Difference Makers is an initiative that was established by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Based on a press release, it is understood that Guild Esports and IET will also help organise a Fortnite event. During the event, for every tree cut down during competition, Difference Makers will plant a real life tree.

What IET said on the partnership with Guild

IET President, Danielle George, stated that: “The future scientists, technicians and engineers, who might one day save the world are likely to be found today — in front of their consoles. With STEM and sustainability so integral to modern life, we’re proud to be creating the world’s first Fortnite tournament where players are fighting for more than just the win; they’re also fighting to make a positive impact on the world around them. Partnering with Guild was the ideal choice for this initiative, with their esports expertise and sustainable initiatives within the organisation.”

When will the Fortnite Event take place?

Meanwhile, the release also stated that the carbon footprint of the event will be taken into account, with a net-zero environental impact being ensured. The tournament has been pencilled in for August 27, with Guild Fornite pro’s and content creators set to go head to head with academy players. Well-known personalities from the scene, such as Henrik “Hen” Mclean, Anas “Anas” El-Abd, Georgina “Gee Nelly” Rose Nelson and Thomas “TN25” Ngegba are set to feature.

Speaking on the partnership, Michelle Tierney, Guild’s Director of Partnerships, stated that: “By working together with Difference Makers, we’re ensuring that sustainability is at the heart of this tournament. Difference Makers doesn’t just demonstrate that gaming can be green but shows us how the visionaries of the world can be found in unexpected places.”

“As an esports organisation co-owned by David Beckham, we understand the importance of an academy structure and the educational benefits for young people as they’re developing. We’re proud to be educating the next generation with the skills to understand the critical importance of sustainability for our future”.

While Guild has invested heavily in the Esports scene over the last 12 months, it is good to see that they are also taking it upon themselves to promote education and sustainability. The partnership between Guild and Difference Makers is certainly unique, however we could see similar deals launched in the near future.
