G2 Esports Win Key Battle Against Rogue in LEC Spring 2021

This was a long-awaited fight in LEC Spring 2021 and it will likely determine the winner of this split. G2 defeated Rogue for the second time this season and these two victories are crucial. Not only because G2 lost two easy matches against S04 and Fnatic, but also because Rogue was almost faultless throughout the split outside of these two defeats it suffered against Rekkles and his squad. The only other competitor that managed to beat them is S04. Strangely enough, it seems that Schalke 04 is an expert at beating formidable opponents but somehow still loses a lot of easy matches.

Current Standings

The rankings table of LEC Spring 2021 looks pretty much the way you’d expect. Although, to be fair, I think a lot of people anticipated Fnatic to be much weaker after the departure of Rekkles. So the fact that Bwipo’s team is sitting at number 4 is quite impressive.

  • 1st place: G2 Esports: 13 W – 2 L
  • 2nd place: Rogue: 12 W – 3 L
  • 3rd place: MAD Lions: 9 W – 6 L
  • 4th place: Fnatic: 9 W – 6 L
  • 5th place: SK Gaming: 8 W – 7 L
  • 6th place: FC Schalke 04 Esports: 6 W – 9 L
  • 7th place: Misfits Gaming: 6 W – 9 L
  • 8th place: Excel Esports: 5 W – 10 L
  • 9th place: Team Vitality: 4 W – 11 L
  • 10th place: Astralis: 3 W – 12 L

G2 versus Rogue, Match 2

What’s interesting about this derby is that it ended rather quickly. G2 used a very potent combination, Jhin plus Lucian, and then played it to perfection.

Week 8 Preview

Week 8 will be the final week of LEC Spring 2021 before the Playoffs. Both G2 and Rogue will face tough opponents and any misstep can be fatal in the battle for the 1st place. G2’s first match will be easy, because Excel Esports is only ranked 8th. Not the same thing can be said against Rogue’s first opponent. SK Gaming is sitting at number 5 with 8 wins and 7 losses, so they’re not exactly unaccustomed to winning.

In the second match of the week, both teams will face tough opposition. G2 will need to defeat MAD Lions while Rogue will try to beat Fnatic. Based on these match-ups, I expect G2 to win the Group Stage. Of course, that might not happen if they lose both matches, but the odds of an upset are slim.

The top 6 teams will advance to the Playoffs. Of these 6 teams, 5 are already known: G2, Rogue, MAD, Fnatic, and SK Gaming. The 6th will be either S04, Misfits, or Excel. But S04 is the most likely winner.
