G2 Esports has announced the signing of Oscar “ozzy” Scott, with the Brit set to act as a stand-in for Aleksander “zeek” Zygmunt. Announcing the news via Twitter on Wednesday, G2 posted that ozzy would be acting as in-game leader for their upcoming Berlin bootcamp, before competing in the VALORANT Champions Tour Open Qualifiers.

Having previously been considered as Europe’s no.1 VALORANT team, as well as the world, G2 was disappointing in the VCT Stage 1, which led to roster changes. The org will undoubtedly be hoping that Ozzy can help them get back to the top, however some have question the decision to install him as IGL.

Why G2 Opted for Ozzy as Stand-In

Ozzy has already competed for a host of VALORANT teams, mostly in lower-tier events. It remains to be seen as to whether he has the ability and temprement to compete at the highest level for G2. He will certainly be hoping he has, with a permanent contract potentially being on the line.

Retired Fortnite pro zeek joined G2 in January this year, however the Polish player was benched despite showing early promise. His performances were potentially effected by the news that his father had contracted Covid-19, with G2 having certainly not closed the door on a return for zeek. However, it does once again raise the question as to just how suited Fortnite players are to VALORANT, with the two Esports titles being so different.

Why G2 Has Made Changes to Its VALORANT Roster

Having failed to qualify for the first round of Challengers, performing well below expectations in the process, G2 looked to make amends in Challengers 2. However, a heavy defeat at the hands of Ninjas in Pyjamas meant that they were once against left disappointed. Challengers 3 didn’t go much better, with a 2-1 defeat against Dfuse sending them home early, despite winning the first map on Ascent 13-3.

It would come as no surprise should G2 return to the top of the European scene however, however it could take time. With an increasing number of teams battling it out, the VCT Stage 2 Qualifiers will be the first chance for fans to see just whether any improvements have been made.
