We brought you the news earlier in the week that Fnatic was to enter the VALORANT scene. Well, the organization has now announced that it has aquired the SUMN FC roster, confirming their entry into the competitive scene.

SUMN FC has dominated the lower tiers of the EU VALORANT scene since it was founded in August 2020, with the fact that their lineup has been picked up by Fnatic meanig that the organization is now no longer one of the few without a VALORANT roster. SUMN FC made it through to the VALORANT Contenders Cup Finals thanks to a win against FunPlus Phoenix, a result which thrust the team into the limelight.

Why Fnatic Chose to Enter the VALORANT Scene Now

Fnatic had previously announced that they had no plans to launch a VALORANT team until 2021, a strategy that has now come to fruition. A whole host of org’s entered the VALORANT scene at the end of last year, picking up players from different games, many of which are former CS:GO pros. However, the much anticipated First Strike event was ultimatley the perfect platform for SUMN FC to showcase its talents.

A 2-0 victory over the Purple Cobras came before their semi-final win against FunPlus Phoenix, with SUMN FC ultimatley coming unstuck against Team Heretics in the final. However, the fact that they were the only competitor without the backing of an organization shows how well they did. The SUMN FC roster had been competing together since back in October, with all now movign to Fnatic.

Who Will Make Up the New Fnatic VALORANT Lineup?

Jake “Boaster” Howlett, Domagoj “Doma” Fancev, James ”Mistic” Orfila, Muhammad “Moe40” Hariff and Kostas “tscack” Theodoropoulos make up the lineup, with coach Jacob “mini” Harris having also been signed. It will certainly be interesting to see if such players can make the step up to the uppier tier of the EU VALORANT scene, however their performances at an amateur level suggest that they could well do.
