Another Overwatch League team has announced its roster for the upcoming season, with the Florida Mayhem having unveiled three new players. Min-seok “OGE” Son, Sung-jun “SLIME” Kim and Seung-hun “Checkmate” Baek will all compete for the team in 2021, with the remainder of the Mayhen lineup being made up by returning players.

Jun-ki “Yaki” Kim, Nam-jin ”Gangnamjin” Kang, Beom-jun “Gargoyle” Lee and Sang-bum “BQB” Lee will be hoping to perform better than last season upon their return to Florida, with the team having progressed steadily since Season One. The additions of OGE and SLIME in particular should help the team, with the duo having experience of playing in the Overwatch League.

What Will the Newcomers Bring to Florida

OGE has represented both the Dallas Fuel and Los Angeles Gladiators in the past, with the 21-year-old having shown glimpses of his talents, despite the teams largely struggling to find any form of consistency. Having been a free agent following his departrue from Los Angeles, it was the Mayhen who ultimately snapped him up.

As for SLIME, the South Korean has achieved success for most of his teams to date. He was part of the dominant RunAway lineup that would go on to become the Vancouver Titans. He them joined the Seoul Dynasty, where the support led the team all the way to the Grand Finals. The Dynasty ultimately lost out to the Shock, however SLIME demonstrated his skills for all to see. As a result, Florida could well have got themselves a bargain.

Will the Mayhem Be a Force to be Reckoned With in 2021?

As for Checkmate, 19-year-old DPS has featured in the Pacific and Korean Contenders recently, most predominantly for Battlica, who surprised many with their results, including a win over Element Mystic back in May. The team eventually finished fourth in the 2020 Contenders, before Checkmate moved to OZ Gaming for the second season, where he was one of the standout players in a struggling team.

The Florida Mayhen lineup now appears to have a good mix of experience and youth, with the team set to be a major threat in 2021, as they were last season.
