Leading Esports organization Evil Geniuses has entered the VALORANT scene, having taken the unprecedented step of announcing a mixed-gender roster. The Riot Games first person shooter has already attracted a host of all-male teams, along with a handful of female lineups, however Evil Geniuses will be the first to compete with a mixed roster.

The team will make its debut at the NA Champions Tour Qualifier, with Christine “potter” Chi having been named as captain. The rest of the roster is made up by fragger Claudia “clawdia” Che, Ronan “Osias” Jeremiah Javelona, Aleksandar Hinojosa and Nolan “Temperature” Pepper. Osias previously represented Mamba Mode Gaming, while Hinojosa and Temperature are former Moon Raccoons pros.

Why EG Waited Until Now to Enter the VALORANT Scene

Many expected Evil Geniuses to enter the VALORANT scene earlier, however the organization was seemingly in no rush to do so. The signing of potter was key, with EG Director of Esports, Greg Kim, having said the following on the news: “When we entered, we really wanted it to be in our way and not just purchasing a team and bringing in five folks from another roster. When we heard potter was looking into VALORANT, that just seemed like a natural starting point for us.”

It is understood that potter and Temperature will be taking on the role of playing sentinel and initiator agents, while the rest of the roster will be in charge of fragging. Potter and clawdia were teammates during the FTW Summer Showdown last year, when they qualified for the Grand Finals. Although they eventually came unstuck against MAJKL, the fact that they did not lose a single map until that point demonstrates their potential.

What We Can Expect from EG in VALORANT

Meanwhile, Aleksandar and Temperature were close to qualifying for the First Strike: North American event. Evil Geniuses could well find themselves going head to head with the likes of TSM and Sentinels soon, who have been competing together for a number of months. It remains to be seen as to how quickly EG can find their top form.

Speaking on the establishment of the EG VALORANT roster, captain potter stated that: “My expectations are pretty adjusted. I think it’s going to be a good learning experience. Reps and match time is definitely something that a new squad needs. But I’m going to be telling the squad that we’re gonna destroy these guys.”
