Following their recent feud with the tech giants, Epic Games are set to launch the #FreeFortnite Cup, which will be one of the biggest Esports tournaments so far this year. Taking place on Sunday August 23, the events prizes include some 1,200 games consoles and merchandise, with the American developers looking to make light of their ongoing disagreement with Apple.

Anyone can enter the tournament, however players can only compete in “solo mode” in a maximum of 12 matches. The one-off event provides contestants with a realistic chance of coming away with something to show for their efforts, with the scoring system having already been announced. In active time, players will score 1 point for every 3 minutes on BR Island, while 1 point per Elim will be earned for eliminations. Meanwhile, 10 points per victory on Victory Royale will potentially separate the best from the rest this weekend.

What Can Gamers Win at the #FreeFortnite Cup?

A press release from Fortnite helped to announce the #FreeFortnite Cup, with a Tart Tycoon outfit being up for grabs for players who score up to 10 points in different regions. Made exclusively with this tournament in mind, players scoring at least 20,000 points will win themselves #FreeFortnite adjustable hat.

Consoles available to win include an Alienware Gaming Laptop, Samsung Galaxy Tab S7, One Plus 8, PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch, with 1,200 being on offer in total, which act as the main prizes. The reason as to why Epic have chosen such prizes is to try and get one over on Apple, as well as demonstrating that Fortnite players will still be able to play the new season, even in light of the ban that has recently been placed against them.

What Impact Has the Feud Between Epic and Apple Had?

Earlier this month, Apple banned Fortnite from the App Store as a result of what they deemed to be a breach of their terms and conditions by Epic Games. This was off the back of the developers creating an in-app payment system, which has even led to people selling used iPhone’s with Fortnite already installed. Such devices have been selling for significant amounts already, with no updates having been provided as to whether the ban will be lifted anytime soon. The fact that Epic have planned such a tournament shows that they are not keen on backing down, with the next few weeks set to be very interesting.
