Despite sitting level on points with Overwatch League leaders Shanghai Dragons, the Dallas Fuel have announced the signing of a new DPS player. Kim “Pine” Do-hyeon has joined the team, having made a name for himself as one of the most exciting hitscan pros in the history of the franchise.

The announcement came shortly after Dallas’ success at the Overwatch League 2021 May Melee event, with the Fuel having posted the following message on Twitter: “the man, the myth, the legend. please join us in giving a warm welcome to @tf2pine to the Fuel fam!”

Why the Fuel Opted to Sign Pine

This post was followed up by another, which read simply, “pending league approval”. Pine has previously competed under the banner of the New York Excelsior, where he made his mark in the inaugural season of the Overwatch League. Playing both McCree and Widowmaker, Pine was given the nickname “Big Boss”, having helped the Excelsior in topping the regular season standings.

New York would go on to reach the playoff semi-finals, however Pine had already announced his retirement from competing at the end of the season. He remained a part of Excelsior, albeit it only as a content creator and streamer. He will now look to achieve big things with the Fuel.

Dallas recorded their best achievement to date in the Overwatch League, having never previously won a single tournament. Having acquired a new roster ahead of the 2021 season, comprising of players from South Korea, a sixth place finish in the West region standings saw them qualify for the May Melee.

How Dallas Won Its First Trophy

The team took full advantage of qualifying, recording 3-0 successes over both the San Francisco Shock and Houston Outlaws. They also overcame the Chengdu Hunters and Shanghai Dragons in order to win the trophy. Pine will certainly add more firepower to the Fuel lineup.

He is expected to make his debut against the London Spitfire on May 28, meaning that fans will have to wait a few weeks to see him in action in Dallas colors. Speaking on his arrival, Pine posted this message on Twitter: “I am very honored to be joining Dallas Fuel~ Many people have been worried about many things in the process of retiring and returning again. Thanks a lot for your attention. Dallas fans or Overwatch fans, thank you!”
