After acting as a stand-in for Team Liquid over recent weeks, Syed “SumaiL” Sumail Hassan has returned to the OG Dota 2 lineup. The news comes shortly before the start of upcoming The International 10 qualifying matches, with OG having recently had to deal with the retirement of Anathan “Ana” Pham.

OG won The International in both 2018 and 2019, however the team has struggled of late. The team is now made up by Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen, Sebastien “Ceb” Debs, Martin “Saksa” Sazdov and Johan “N0tail” Sundstein. SumaiL first joined OG in January 2020, having previously been the youngest ever win of The International with Evil Geniuses in 2015.

How OG Announced the Return of SumaiL

Speculation was high as to who would fill OG’s roster following the departure of Ana. However, the organization broke the news of SumaiL’s return by posting the following message on Twitter: “In pure OG fashion, our road to qualify to TI this year is not the smoothest. A king’s help will be more than welcomed. @SumaaaaiL has accepted to once again hop on our train and give us a royal hand. Welcome back, king.”

The return of SumaiL is certain to give OG a boost, with the 22-year-old having began his Dota 2 journey as a pub-star in North America. His performances here eventually helped him secure a move to the all-star Evil Geniuses lineup. Having won The International 5, SumaiL announced himself as one of Dota 2’s star players.

Why SumaiL is Held in Such High Regard in the Dota 2 Community

SumaiL recently departed Team Liquid following the Dota 2 WePlay AniMajor, becoming a free agent in the process. SumaiL has had an up and down career with OG to date, having filled in for Ceb in January last year, before being benched upon the arrival of Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng and Saksa.

SumaiL still holds the record for the most kills in a single The International game, having recorded 31 for Evil Geniuses against OG back in 2018.
