Dota 2 – OG’s Ceb retires and Topson takes a break

OG is losing two of its OGs and star players in one swoop. Topia’s Miikka “Topson” Taavitsainen and Sebastien “Ceb” Debs have both decided to retire from OG and turn their backs on competitive play.

While Topson needs a break to finally spend more time with his family, Ceb just wants to “retire from competing at the highest level.” Topson is a big and important part of the lineup, having helped OG win The International twice (TI8 and TI9). He is considered one of the best players in the world and has racked up more wins than any other player.

Why Topson is taking a break

After winning The International 9, the Finnish player got married and shortly after he and his wife welcomed their first child. In 2020, he returned to OG and competed again with his team. Because he worked so much, he was away from his family for more than half a year, which was not easy for the 23-year-old. During this time, he made the decision to retire from competing to spend more time with his family.

When OG only finished seventh at TI10, Topson said he realized he just didn’t have the motivation to play anymore and wanted to take a break to be with his family. Despite everything, he has not ruled out the possibility of returning after the break.

Why Ceb is retiring

Sébastien “Ceb” Debs has also announced his intention to retire from the competition. Like Topson, Ceb helped his team win the TI twice. The fact that he is now saying goodbye to OG as well is a major blow to the team. In a video, the 29-year-old player explained the reasons behind his decision: “I knew before TI10 that I was going to retire. I didn’t tell my teammates because I didn’t want it to be all about me.”

Besides, the reasons are the same as Topson’s – after two TI wins, he simply lacked motivation, which is understandable. Basically, he has achieved everything that can be achieved. Now he wants to move on in a different direction for the time being. What exactly his plans are for the future, however, is not yet known.

Since 2016 Ceb played for OG, at that time still under the name “7ckngMad”. He later coached OG before becoming a substitute player in 2018, and then rejoined as a player at TI8 and TI9 – where OG secured the title both times. Whoever steps into Ceb and Topson’s shoes now will have a big task ahead of them, as both players leave behind a gigantic legacy.
