Dire Wolves has completed the purchase of AVANT Gaming, with the two leading Esports brands set to join forces in the CS:GO scene in an attempt to grow the Oceanic Esports community. As the most successful team in the history of the region, Dire Wolves announced that it had acquired the legendary AVANT earlier this week.

The deal will see Dire Wolves compete in CS:GO for the first time later this year, while AVANT Gaming will continue to compete in League of Legends, VALORANT and other titles. AVANT has over 10 years worth of experience to its name, having developed some of the best talent in ANZ Esports in the past. It is such factors that make the merger all the more exciting for fans in Oceania.

How Dire Wolves Made Its Mark in the Esports Scene

Dire Wolves is perhaps best known for its League of Legends roster, before becoming a multi-game organization last year, following the purchase of N8 Esports and Sydney Drop Bears. Such acquisitions saw the organization move into the FIFA and Overwatch scenes, among other titles. However, Dire Wolves did part ways with its Apex Legends lineup at the beginning of February.

The org will be part of the newly formed League of Legends Circuit Oceania (LCO), with AVANT Gaming’s spot in the tournament now being up for grabs. Speaking on the announcement, Dire Wolves owner, Jason Spiller, stated that “AVANT is one of the founding organizations of ANZ esports, and it has an invaluable legacy which we’re so proud to be able to carry on as we welcome the team to the Dire Wolves family. This is a historic moment for Oceanic esports with the new LCO beginning later this month, and with this huge new influx of talent and expertise joining the team, Dire Wolves is ready to be at the center of it.”

What AVANT Gaming Has Said on the Deal

Meanwhile, owner of AVANT Gaming, Wes Collier, also had his say on the merger, stating: “The Dire Wolves and Avant have always shared an amazing rivalry and mutual respect as two of the leading and most storied esports organizations in Oceania, and this coming together heralds the end of an amazing journey for Avant, but a new era for both organizations, and the further establishment of the Dire Wolves as the dominant esports brand in the region.”
