CS:GO Veteran Steel Set for Move to Valorant as a Streamer

Well-known Counter-Strike: Global Offensive pro Joshua “Steel” Nissan has announced that he will be moving to Valorant as a streamer, sticking with Chaos Esports in the process. While his retirement from CS:GO will have come as a surprise to some, the 30-year-old Canadian’s transition to a full-time Valorant streamer should be a worthwhile one.

Having been a pro since back in 2009, Steel has enjoyed successful spells with the likes of Dignitas and Ghost in the past, before joining Chaos in 2019. Chaos announced that they would be helping Nissan in his efforts to become an effective streamer, while also stating that a replacement on their CS:GO roster would be announced on September 1. It is widely rumoured that Edgar “MarKE” Maldonado will fill the void left by Steel, with the Mexican having most recently represented Ze Pug Godz.

What Has Steel Achieved in CS:GO to Date?

It had been rumoured that Steel would become one of the latest CS:GO players to sign up for a Valorant team, however his move into streaming perhaps makes more sense, especially given his advancing years. Steel was surrounded by controversy back in 2015, with the Canadian being involved in a match fixing scandal in North America, which eventually lead to a ban from Valve events.

Steel enjoyed a relatively successful time in CS:GO with Chaos, having returned to the game in 2017 following his ban from ESL events. Alongside his teammates, Steel helped Chaos in reaching the ESL One: Cologne North America Semi-Finals, as well as winning Season 34 of the ESEA Premier North America earlier this year.

Steel has been playing a significant amount of Valorant on his Twitch stream of late, with moves to the likes of 100Thieves and Team Dignitas having been talked about in the industry, with both having had spots available on their Valorant rosters. However, we now know that the 30-year-old will turn to streaming under the guidance of Chaos, with the organisation stating on their Twitter page that: “Coming off of our recent success, Josh “steel” Nissan will be transitioning to streaming full-time as a content creator focused on Valorant within the organization.”

Why an Increasing Number of Pros are Switching to Valorant

Riot’s Valorant has been attracting an increasing number of CS:GO players over recent weeks, with Nitr0, ScreaM and Hiko having been some of the biggest names to make the switch. The success of Valorant since its launch in June this year has led to many questioning their future elsewhere, meaning that more moves from CS:GO are likely.
