Gambit Esports and Natus Vincere won their quarterfinal matches 2-0 and will now meet in the semifinals of the PGL Major Stockholm 2021. The second semi-final of the Major in Stockholm will be an all-Russian one between Gambit and Natus Vincere. Both teams won their quarterfinal matches at the Avicii Arena on Friday.

Gambit’s lineup defeated FURIA Esports 2-0 in a best-of-three match. Na`Vi followed that up with a 2-0 win over Team Vitality as well. After the match between Gambit and FURIA, Vladislav ‘nafany’ Gorshkov had many words of praise for his Brazilian opponent in an interview and also revealed himself to be a fan of Andrei ‘arT’ Piovezan. However, this did not help FURIA much in the match against the Russian world number four, who lived up to their role as favorites.

Gambit vs. FURIA

In the first half of Inferno, Gambit built a 9:6 advantage on the CT side. Despite a brief spurt by the Brazilians at the start of the second half, the Russians then pulled away to 15:11, which resulted in four mappoints. But apparently Hobbit and Co. were now feeling too secure.

FURIA, on the other hand, won round after round until the score was tied at 15:15 and overtime decided the map lead. Then the favored CIS team rallied and won Inferno 4:2 in the first overtime. The game continued on Gambit’s map pick, Overpass, where the Russians started on the attacking side. Neither team was able to pull away in the first half and Gambit had a close 8:7 lead.

On the CT side, the Brazilians managed to take over a 10:9 lead, electrifying the FURIA fans in the arena. However, Gambit then tightened the score and pulled off its oft-praised and tactically mature play. Leading the way, Hobbit, who already has a Major title under his belt, once again delivered an outstanding performance. The Russians brought FURIA to their knees with 16:10 and were thus confirmed as semi-finalists of the tournament in Stockholm.

Natus Vincere vs. Team Vitality

On their own Pick Dust2, the French got off to the better start in their match against Natus Vincere and went into halftime with an 8:7 advantage on the T-side. After the change, however, Na`Vi started a furious and ruthless attacking game. NAVI was able to win more and more rounds until it was finally 16:11.

On the second map, Nuke, Team Vitality started on the CT side favored by most teams and secured a 9:6 halftime lead. The French were now fighting eagerly for every round, always mindful that another map loss would mean the Major elimination. That fighting spirit lead to a 13:10 lead.

Natus Vincere then proved their dominance and from then on the French had no chance to score. In the end NAVI was able to win the map with 16:13 and sent Vitality on their way home.

This means that FURIA and Team Vitality are eliminated from the tournament. Today in the semifinals Natus Vincere will play Gambit Esports and G2 Esports will play Team Heroic. Of course you will find out about the outcome of the matches tomorrow here on Fragster.
