CS:GO – PGL Major Stockholm New Legends Stage Results

The New Legends Stage of PGL Major Stockholm is finally over and we now know who the 8 remaining teams are. In most cases, you won’t be surprised at all. In fact, there’s hardly any competitor that has qualified for the Playoffs and had not been predicted to do so. With two exceptions, Astralis and Team Liquid, all of the usual suspects have survived the first 2 stages of the tournament. The Danish team got replaced by Virtus.pro while the North American one got replaced by FURIA Esports.

New Legends Stage Summary

The New Legends Stage of PGL Major started well for 4 teams: Na’Vi, G2, NiP, and Entropiq. However, the 4^th of these teams went on to lose 3 consecutive matches and got eliminated, while the 3^rd nearly suffered the same fate. Only Na’Vi and G2 managed to maintain their excellent form until the end.

At the other extreme we had Vitality. The French squad started with 2 consecutive defeats, against Virtus.pro and Heroic. But then went on to win 3 consecutive matches: against Evil Geniuses, Astralis, and Entropiq. Each match ended with the same result: 2 – 1.

Gambit was also expected to qualify and indeed, it managed to do so without too many problems. Sh1ro and his crew still lost one game against Entropiq, but with victories against ENCE, Virtus.pro, and NiP (2 – 0), they eventually made it through. And fortunately for them, they’ll meet FURIA in the Quarterfinals. This almost guarantees that they will play in the Semifinals against Na’Vi, if s1mple plays well enough to beat Vitality.

Heroic was another team that was expected to do well and it qualified with a record of 3 W – 1 L. Only Na’Vi succeeded against it.

The biggest disappointments of the New Legends Stage of PGL Major Stockholm were FaZe Clan, Team Liquid, Astralis, and Copenhagen Flames. Entropiq was also a bit of a letdown given its performance in stage 1 and then in the first 2 matches of stage 2.

New Champions Stage Seeding

The Quarterfinals matches pretty much doom Vitality and NiP. Their opponents, Na’Vi and G2, looked incredibly strong during the New Legends Stage and have had multiple impressive results in 2021. In Vitality’s case, unless s1mple plays the worst Counter-Strike of his career, the match should be impossible to win.

NiP has a chance, but only if the entire lineup delivers. The Swedish team has already defeated G2 on September 20^th this year, so it wouldn’t be the first time. But based on what we’ve seen so far from both teams, G2 looks much stronger.

The other two matches of the Quarterfinals will be FURIA versus Gambit and Heroic versus Virtus.pro. The big favorites are Gambit and Heroic.
