New Danish CS:GO Team Debuts Featuring MSL & aizy. Former North and OpTic Gaming in-game leader Mathias “MSL” Lauridsen has helped form a brand new Danish CS:GO team, that will compete under the banner of South, before they are snapped up by an organization.

The team, which also features MSL’s ex-North teammates Philip “aizy” Aistrup, Jesper “TENZKI” Plougmann, Frederik “Fessor” Sorensen and Jackob “JUGi” Hansen, is set to debut this week. JUGi has been a free agent since parting ways with Complexity Gaming back in January, with the lineup having been unveiled shortly before the start of the Funspark ULTI Regional Series qualifier. MSL created the roster from scratch, with MSL having been working on the team since July, rather than focusing on finding a new organization to compete for.

Why it could take time for South to make an impact

TENZKI has also been out of action for an extended period, having last played competitively in November last year, before being benched by North. Meanwhile, both aizy and Fessor were competing for HYENAS, a non-sponsored Danish outfit. This team went their separate ways when Markus “Kjaerbye” Kjaerbye retired from CS:GO at the end of June.

It would appear that the team will have to put together a run of good results before they are snapped up by an Esports organization, with none of the players having achieved anything of note so far this year. With both open and closed qualifiers coming up as the team looks to make it through to a tier two event, it could be an uphill battle for South, especially given the talent within the European scene at present.

Speaking on Twitter, MSL posted the following message: “I have decided to create my own team. I have found all the players and it’s a good mixture of talent and experience. We are searching an organization with high ambitions!”

When will we see South in action?

The team will take on Monte Carlo on Wednesday at the Funspark ULTI Regional Series qualifier, an event which see 14 other teams battle it out for the four available spots at Funspark ULTI Europe Season Three. South know that if they win their opening match, they would take on the winner of the match between AVE and Lilmix in the quarter finals. The likes of Galaxy Racer, MAD Lions and Eternal Fire are among the other recognised teams competing at the event.
