Danish Esports organization Astralis has announced that both Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke and Benjamin “blameF” Bremer have been added to its CS:GO roster. With Peter “Dupreeh” Rasmussen, Emil “Magisk” Reif and Danny “zonic” Sorensen looking set to part ways with the team before their contracts expire in January, Astralis has began its roster rebuild.

Astralis suffered an early exit from the recent PGL Stockholm Major, with new head coach Alexander “ave” held having stated that he is looking to “revitalize” the team, in an attempt to return them to the top of the European scene. While some were surprised to learn that dupreeh, magisk and zonic would be leaving, with the trio having been with the org for a number of years, it is clear that change was needed.

Why Astralis Has Decided to Make Such Drastic Changes

Astralis won a host of Major tournaments with the trio on board, however a recent press release from the org let fans know that they would be departing before or when their contracts expire. Speaking on the teams’ recent struggles, Astralis Director of Esports, Kasper Hvid, stated that:

“To eliminate the insecurities and ensure the clarity and focus, we need to create the best possible conditions for everybody on and around the team. We add two world-class players and a new, strong coach profile who all bring a lot of energy and motivation to build on the strong Astralis legacy and to be a contender for the biggest titles again.”

Hvid described k0nfig and blameF as “absolutely world class”, with the duo having long been among the most impressive players in the Danish CS:GO scene. Astralis will be hoping that their time spent at Complexity together will be beneficial to them. Adding to his earlier comments, Hvid continued by stating:

“In addition to their obvious qualities on the server, they come with a personality, motivation, and energy that will be felt all the way out to the back rows in the biggest arenas.”

Can ave Help Astralis Return to the Top?

Coach “ave” will be hoping to improve Astralis’ tactical awareness, with the 33-year-old ex-North coach being known for his analytical skills in particular. As a veteran of the CS:GO scene, ave is expected to bring his unique style to Astralis. Speaking on his arrival at the org, the former mTw pro stated that:

“I come with an analytical and strategic approach, with a focus to be prepared [as] best [as] possible, so we get the best out of each player individually and out of the team. I cannot promise titles from day one, but I can promise we will come top prepared and give everything we have.”
