AD Carry Martin “Rekkles” Larsson is reportedly set to leave G2 Esports, with the European organization believed to be holding tryouts for a replacement ahead of next year’s LEC. Rekkles is one of the biggest names in League of Legends, however his future is now very much up in the air.

G2 will now look to sell Rekkles’ contract, which is due to expire in November 2023. It is understood that fellow players and members of staff were informed of the decision some weeks ago, with fans awaiting to see who replaces the Swedish veteran. The relationship between G2 and Rekkles soured following the team’s failure to qualify for the World Championship. It was the first time they had not made it to the event since they qualified for Europe’s top league.

Why G2 has decided to let Rekkles go

Rekkles also recently pulled out of attending the World Championship group draw show. The 25-year-old had been due to represent G2 at the event. However, the special guest failed to show, with jungler “Jankos” having stood in instead. This was despite G2 and Rekkles holding extensive negotiations.

Team Vitality has reportedly expressed an interest in acquring Rekkles. However, G2 are understood to not be interested in negotiating with the org at this point. It remains to be seen as to whether their opinion will change on the matter. Meanwhile, it is unknown what the next step will be for Rekkles.

What the future holds for Rekkles

The former Fnatic pro could even switch regions, with the League Pro League in China having been suggested as a possible destination. However, Europe and North America remain the most likely options, with further news expected in the coming weeks. G2 are now holding extensive tryouts as they search for a new ADC. A handful of regional league bot laners are believed to be in the running.

G2 were the favourites in the LEC this year. However, Rekkles and his teammates failed to deliver when it mattered most. Rekkles’ switch from Fnatic in November 2020 was one of the most expensive in Esports history. However, the Perkz replacement failed to live up to expectation.

The German organization could well undergoe a serious transformation over the fall, with support Mikyx and head coach Grabbz likely to depart. The team will likely center around mid laner Caps, who has extended his contract with G2 until the end of 2023.
