Following the departure of Jacob “Decemate” Cato after just 15 days, the Seattle Surge has announced the signing of Nicholas “Classic” DiCostanzo as his replacement. The move comes shortly before the start of the 2021 Call of Duty League Stage 4, with Classic set to reunite with former teammates Sam “Octane” Larew and Peirce “Gunless” Hillman.

The news of Classic’s arrival was made public on Monday, with the team having posted the following message on Twitter, accompanied by a welcome video: We’ve got an instant @Classic. Welcome NickyD to the starting lineup!”

Why Seattle Signed Classic

Classic most recently played for the Paris Legion, having joined the team in December last year. He finished his journey with the Legion with a 0.91 K/D in Hardpoint and a 0.72 K/D in Search and Destroy. However, with the Surge having a free spot on their roster following the surprise departure of Decemate, it was a no brainer for Seattle. Decemate had only joined the team on May 3, replacing Daniel “Loony” Loza.

The Seattle Surge are in desperate need for reinforcements, with their performances in 2021 so far having been hugely disappointing. They find themselves rock bottom of the Call of Duty League standings, with just 50 points to their name. This is as a result of their 4-15 record. The team had shown signs of improvement during Stage Two, however they were brought back down to earth with six losses in Stage Three.

Why the Surge Need New Faces

Last year, the Surge ended with a 5-16 record, securing a top 12 finish at the 2020 Call of Duty Championship in the process. While the addition of Classic may not have an instant impact, his experience could well be valuable in the long-run. Seattle face an uphill battle in qualifying for the 2021 Champs at the end of the year.
We will see Classic make his debut for the Seattle Surge when Stage Four of the 2021 Call of Duty League gets underway on May 27. The Surge will come up against the Los Angeles Thieves on May 29.
