Rasmus “caPs” Borregaard Winther has signed a new four-year contract with G2 Esports, with the mid laner having been with the European giants since November 2018. The Danish star’s deal will see him remain with G2 for the foreseeable future, with the org having announced the news on Thursday.

It was reported that Caps had signed a one-year contract extension with G2 back in September, with his previous deal having been due to expire in November 2023, according to the Global Contract Database of Riot Games. G2 has taken full advantage of changes to rules surrounding the maximum contract length of League of Legends professionals.

Why G2 Was Able to Lock Caps Down to a Long-Term Contract

According to a report from Upcomer last month, Riot are now allowing selected players to sign “long term contracts”, worth as long as four years. This is an increase of 12 months, with pros having only been able to extend for three years previously. With Caps having competed for G2 since the 2019 LEC Spring Split, the former Fnatic man has a large number of LEC titles to his name.

Now aged 22, Caps began his professional journey with Enigma Esports back in 2015, before playing for Inspire Esports, E-corp Gaming, mousesports, Nerv, Dark Passage and Fnatic. Having spent almost 2 years with Fnatic, Caps switched to G2 at the same time as Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle, who is currently weighing up his options.

Caps also appeared at the Worlds 2019, before his and G2’s performances and results dropped in 2021. The org failed in their goal of winning a domestic championship, meaning that it came as no surprise when they missed out on the Worlds. G2 decided to undergo a significant roster rebuild as a result, with a number of changes having been made during the offseason.

How the G2 Esports League of Legends Roster Looks Ahead of the 2022 Season

However, Caps managed to retain his place on the G2 active roster, along with jungler “Jankos”. The duo were the only players not to be released from the starting lineup, with the roster being made up by top laner “Broken Blade”, AD Carry Victor “Flakked” Lirola and support Raphael “Targamas” Crabbe.

Perkz also features on the new look G2 roster, with the superstar having joined the org from Vitality ahead of the 2022 season. Expectations will be high at G2 given their recent adjustments, with the LEC Spring Split set to get underway on January 14.
