The Atlanta Reign has confirmed the signing of Hitscan DPS Kai “Kai” Collins, with the Brit having been a free agent after spending just 12 months with the Los Angeles Valiant. You may well know Kai better as KPS, with the 20-year-old having changed his name at the start of the year.

Kai was one of the leading players in the Overwatch League last season, with many, including the Philadelphia Fusion’s Philip “ChipSa” Graham and several coaches, having been surprised when he was not nominated for the MVP award. This notion was summed up by London Spitfire Head Coach Justin “reprize” Hand, who having worked with Kai at the Valiant, stated that:

“As someone who worked very closely with [Kai] I whole heartedly agree, and whats even crazier is that Valiant got him in the first place. We thought we had zero chance of getting him. But then as the weeks went by we realized that somehow [no] one else even wanted him.”

How Kai Made a Name For Himself in the Overwatch Scene

Kai made his name with Young and Beautiful in European Contenders, with his skills with heroes such as McCree and Widomaker in particular helping him to stand out. His talents helped Great Britain in reaching the semi finals of the 2018 Overwatch World Cup, with the team having caused a host of upsets along the way, before eventually losing out to Canada in the 3rd/4th place playoff.

Having then competed under the banner of the Samsung Morning Stars and the XL2 Academy, Kai got his big break when he joined the Valiant in January 2020. Despite his arrival, Los Angeles endured an inconsistent season, which eventually resulted in a playoff defeat to the Washington Justice. With the Valiant having made the decision to release its entire roster following the result, Kai became a free agent in the offsesaon.

Who Makes up the Atlanta Reign Roster?

With the Atlanta Reign having parted company with DPS Hugo “SharP” Sahlberg earlier in the week, Kai appears to be a good replacement. However, it is likely that the Reign will make additional changes to its roster, with their lineup currently being made up by support Petja “Masaa” Kantanen, tank Xander “Hawk” Domecq, DPS Kim “Edison” Tae-Hoon, Seunghyun “Lr1s” Kim and Oh “Pelican” Se-hyun.
